Floor

I almost tripped and flopped, running down the corridors of the hospital. Hindi ko alam kung paano ako nakarating sa hospital sa loob ng sampung minuto pero nagawa ko. 'Yon na ata ang pinakamabilis na pagdrive na ginawa ko sa buong buhay ko.

I stopped running when I saw all of them looked so flush. Ate Lyrae's sitting in Kuya Josh's lap, beside them was Lauren who was leaning on Mommy Sandra's shoulders. I can also see that Mommy Sandra's holding a rosary while Vini's sitting on the cold hospital floor, staring straight at the empty wall in front of him.

I slowly stepped closer and the sound of my footsteps echoed down the corridors which made Vini looked at me.

He immediately stood up and made his way to me.

"Bella..." he said my name and hugged me.

"How long will it take?" I asked Vini who's now breaking down in my arms.

"They said... three to four hours..." Vini answered between his sobs.

I hugged Vini back and averted my eyes to the large doors of the operating room.

Yes... Daddy Sean's in the operating room right now. Ang akala ko nga'y namatay na si Daddy Sean pero hindi. Gusto ko ngang sapukin ang sarili ko dahil pinapangunahan ko pa ang mga mangyayari.

"Hello?" I answered Vini's call with a shaky voice.

"Bella..." he cried, and my tears fell automatically because I already knew his next line. "Daddy's gone..."

I immediately stood up from my seat when he suddenly continued.

"He went inside the operating room for the surgery..." he continued and my heart felt relieved. "I don't know what to do, Bella. I can't keep calm. Can you come back now here, please? I need you here with me..."

I don't know how it happened that Daddy Sean finally agreed to the said operation, but I'm glad that he did. I'm glad that he didn't give up on life; he didn't give up on his family who wanted him to live.

"Shh... Don't worry. He'll be fine, Vini." I calmed him down while patting his back. "I'm sure Daddy will make it through. Malakas siya, diba?"

Vini didn't answer and he just kept on hugging me.

Hindi ko alam kung ilang minutong nagtagal na ganon pero hindi man lang ako nangawit dahil nakayakap siya sa akin. Umupo lang kami ni Vini nang biglang dumating sina Jace, Liana at Jonathan.

"Did you drive the car safely, Jace?" rinig kong tanong ni Kuya Josh kay Jace nang inabot nito ang susi ng sasakyan kay Kuya Josh.

"Of course po, Dad." Jace simply answered. "We wouldn't be here safe if I didn't, right?"

Napailing nalang si Kuya Josh sa sinabi ni Jace at ibinulsa ang susi ng sasakyan.

Jace never failed to amaze me with his cold attitude. Kapag nakikita mo palang siya ay mararamdaman mo na ang malamig na aura niya lalong-lalo na kapag tinignan mo siya sa kaniyang mga mata. I'm sure that Kuya Josh and Ate Lyrae were already used to Jace with that kind of attitude kaya hindi na nila 'yon pinupuna.

"Tita Bella." Liana suddenly called me kaya naman nilingon ko siya agad.

"Yes, Li?" I smiled at her with my puffed eyes.
