Chapter 35 - Darkness & The Goddess

I looked at my brother, we'd been able to get to know each other better the last few weeks he'd been here. I formed a half-smile as I replied, "I know, it still seems so bewildering and wrong somehow. But at least I don't feel so alone anymore."

Stephen was still making plans with Timothy and felt my unease, he absently put his hand on my shoulder and started rubbing it. I was thinking about this strange energy and reached out to touch the shielding device that was sitting right in front of me.

And I felt a zap! The thing zapped me! I turned to look at Gavon, then Stephen- and noticed the whole world was frozen again. Even the goldfish in the corner. This couldn't be Zeke since he was dead, was it a booby trap? But what the hell? Alarmed I squirmed away from Stephen and took a step from Gavon and looked around the room.

Against the now open door at the far end of the lab there was a Tall Man looking amused, he was smiling and enjoying my discomfort and not the slightest bit afraid of me. I immediately made the silver flame in my hands, ready to defend my pack- with my heart suddenly racing and my breathing rapid at this new threat.

The Tall Man had short dark hair, was dressed in a black suit with a white shirt and narrow black tie, he had a red kerchief in his suit jacket as an accent, and I could see an expensive watch around his wrist. His skin seemed a pale grey if that was a color, and his eyes seemed totally black- no white whatsoever. It was chilling, this man was a killer. It was like looking into the eyes of someone wearing reflective sunglasses, only more menacing.

More dangerous.

"What the hell!" I shouted at him, I wanted answers- NOW! He just continued to smile at me in a creepy way.

"Congratulations on your discoveries, Luna," the man said in a normal male voice, his words caressing my skin in a hair raising way. "We didn't think you'd get this far."

The strange man stood up slowly from the door and reached behind him to open the door further. "Come with me," he said as he turned and left the room. I hesitantly followed him through the door, peeking first. The room he entered was pitch black, I could see nothing but the back of the man a few feet inside the room as he walked slowly on.

"What's going on?!" I asked again in an angry voice.

"You'll have to follow me, Luna, if you want any answers," the man said turning around and waited for me. Looking behind me, I mouthed the word 'sorry' to a still frozen Stephen, then I walked in the room holding my silver flame. With a loud Bang! the door slammed behind me scaring the crap out of me and making me jump. This was far beyond spooky, I could see nothing but blackness surrounding me and my flame in my hand. But this created barely enough light so I could still see the Tall Man walking away from me and I followed him slowly and reluctantly. There was nothing surrounding me, a total lack of...anything. I still walked but didn't feel a solid floor which was unsettling. There were no sounds, nothing solid that I could sense, no people I could detect, just this Tall Man leading me further in the darkness.

It was like walking on a storm cloud at night and scared the crap out of me.

The Tall Man told me to wait here as he walked and quietly faded away, blending in the uncanny darkness. I held out my flame and kept looking around me feeling a total absence of... everything. It wasn't cold or warm, it wasn't anything at all. After a few minutes I made myself calm down. I kept my flame going in my left hand and kept my right hand ready for attack.

I finally felt... something. I turned all around to look but didn't see anything, I mostly felt something approaching. I was disoriented but then felt an icy chill from behind me and I quickly turned around. I could still see nothing, but the area I was looking at appeared blacker if that was possible. Something was near me and I couldn't see it.
