"No, we're not going!" I half shrieked, half whispered being as though Edith stood a measly 15 feet away.

"Yes we are! It's college. We have to go out and meet people. You know, YOLO."

"Oh god, if you ever say YOLO again, I will not hesitate you to punch you in your face," I said jokingly. "And plus, what would my mom think knowing that I went to a party on the second day, and had a boy in my room on the first?"

"Wait you had a boy in the dorm?" Summer asked.

"That's not important right now!" I hissed.

"Relax, she'll never know unless you tell her, duh." She replied.

At that note, my phone started to buzz.

I took it out my purse to see who it was.

'Of course it's her,' I thought.

"Hello mom," I said as sweetly as I could with Summer snickering right next to me.

"Hi sweetie, how are you today?" my mom said into the receiver.

"Oh, nothing I just got back from orientation. I'm thinking about joining the robotics club." That's another thing that was different about me. Not only was I black, but I was an engineer major. I don't know about you, but most girls back at my hometown didn't associate themselves with computers and junk. Instead, they swarmed to the Home EC classes and Family Living classes. I had always been attracted to circuit boards and wires, and took all types of STEM classes thoughout middle and high school.

"Oh. So Naomi, do you have anything planned for tonight?"

I hestitated. Should I tell her about my plans?

"Ummm, no mom." I finally decided.

"You sure? Doesn't sound too convincing." My mom always saw through my lies.

"Yeah I'm sure mom, I'll just be studying." That lie was a real stretch. Classes hadn't even started yet.

"Well, if you say so..." my mom said suspiciously. "I'll call you later. Bye." Phew. She actually believed me.

"C'mon Naomi, let's get ready for this party," Summer said practically dragging me to the elevator.

------------

"Don't you think that's enough?" I groaned. Right now, I was serving as her guinea pig.

"There's no such thing as too much when comes to makeup." Summer said.

"Well, then hurry up. It's already 10:45." I didn't know what time college parties started, but I just assumed they began at 11ish.

Summer stroked my cheeks a few more times with what I think was bronzer or something and said, "Done." Summer handed me a mirror.

When I saw what I looked like, I was at a lost for words. Summer had contoured my nose and cheeks, making it seem like I had higher cheek bones and a skinner nose. She also put blush on my cheeks, making my face have a natural pinkish glow. Finally, she literally applied gold glitter on my eyes and a little on my hairline.

"Uh..I...I don't what to say," I stuttered.

Summer's smile faltered as she said,"You don't like it?"

"No,no," I assured her. "I absolutely love it!" I stood up and gave her a big hug.

"Thanks Naomi, now let me do my makeup."

As she did her face, I picked out what I was going to wear to my first ever college party.

I ended up picking out a bronze tight crop top to match my golden makeup. I left my black skirt on, and wore the thick brown wedges Summer wore to orientation.

Soon Summer was dressed with fresh makeup on. She wore a tight form fitting black dress and high brown boots. She looked amazing. There was no doubt that I would have to be swatting boys off her all night long.

"Let's rock and rock," I said to Summer, the same thing my mother told me when we left for New York.

------------------

"Are you sure this is it?" I asked Summer, as we walked up the long driveway.

"Yeah, think so. Found a promo on instagram that seems pretty similar to what Edith was talking about. This is the address.

From the outside, the house looked dark and silent. There were no lights on and looked pretty empty. Our taxi already left, so if the party wasn't here we were screwed.

Summer walked up to the door before me and rung the bell. A few seconds, it swung open.

"Hey ladies," a plump boy with rosy red cheeks greeted us. "Here for the party?" We nodded our heads and he let us in.

Inside, the party was huge. I looked over to my left and there was a couple making out. To my right, a wasted girl was throwing up in a fake plant. Right in front of me, some girl twerked on an expensive statue. This was totally not was I was expecting.

"I didn't even think that there was a party here," Summer told the boy.

"Yeah, we're on probation, so we put up black curtains to stop the lights from traveling outside. And plus, this house is pretty soundproof. Can't hear a thing when you're outside."

"Oh, why are you guys on probation?" I butt into their conversation.

"Too much underage drinkers, and too much fights. But that's what college is all about," the plump boy said to me. "Well, don't sit around here talking to me all night. I can tell you guys are freshman, so make some friends."

"Wow, that obvious?" I asked Summer as we walked off deeper into the party. Soon, we were at the kitchen where they were serving drinks.

"Want some drinks," an asian boy slurred, handing Summer and I a red solo cup."

Summer sipped hers as I walked over to the sink to pour mine out. She could drag me to this party, but she was not making me drink.

"Oh man, you're such a Debbie downer," Summer frowned. "I feel the buzz already."

"Someone's got to be in the right state of mind in case something happens," I defended. I filled my cup up with some coke instead.

"Summer, I think that boy's checking you out," I nodded over into the living room.

"Ooh, he wants this booty. Imma go check him out," Summer giggled, strutting over to the over room. I trailed a little way behind her. Hey, I still didn't know anyone yet.

I took in my surroundings, walking aimlessly behind my roommate. Above our heads was a giant crystal chandelier, and I could tell the sofas were made out of genuine leather. Whoever lived in this house had to be rich. A large fire place warmed the house and-

"Oh my gosh! I'm so sorry!" I said. I wasn't paying attention and had bumped someone. I had spilled my coke on their clean white shirt.

"Watch where you're going next time, idoit," a deep voice snarled.

That voice sounded oodly familiar. I looked up and...

It was Asher.
