The day I met Percy and Annabeth was sad to say the least. I was working as a surgeon in the E.R during that time. I remember on July 15th I was called for an emergency surgery for a man that had been in a animal attack incident.  Apparently he had been on the brink of death and an operation was his final hope. I basically ran to the operation room and while getting there I saw a blond woman sobbing her eyes out. At first I thought she was injured, but soon I realized she was stricken with sadness and grief. It was always a horrible sight, to see someone crying over a loved one. I knew from too much experience....

When I was in the surgery room  I examined the patient. He was about 20 and covered in blood and claw marks. I knew that he was most likely having a lot of internal bleeding as well, so I immediately set to work. After about three hours I was almost certain that we couldn't fix the damage. There had been too much blood loss for him to survive. One of the nurses aiding me was running around frantically and in the process spilled sterilized water into the patient's wounds. We all froze, not because he flat-lined. Not because the bleeding got worse. Not because the water was filling his open wounds. No, the man on the table was healing.  Bit by bit, his gaping wounds were closing and his skin tone was returning back to it's original, golden tan.  Everyone in the room stepped back, not believing the sight before us.  We stared at the man confused, when suddenly his eye lids fluttered and he was awake.  His eyes were the most amazing color, but I didn't have enough time to study them.  He bolted off the table, ran out the door and the rest of us were standing there dumbfounded.

A man.. a human being had just healed himself with water. When I went to the seating area, the blonde woman was gone as well and the whole operation team decided to make a decision. We wouldn't speak of that incident again, and just let it go. Because some mysteries are left better unexplained.
