Newt and herself had even been appointed to run behind the rest to ensure that Isabella wouldn't disappear amongst the rush. Wendy couldn't help but notice along the way though that Newt was constantly stealing glances at the blonde, eyes knit together in confusion and intense thought as he did so.
Wendy didn't dwell on it too much though. After all, he did love Isabella at one time.
But it's different now. He's different now.
Wendy's hair whipped in the wind as they continued running. Her legs were sore and aching, but no matter how much she wanted to stop, she continued. The building was getting closer and soon enough they'd be there.
Suddenly, a loud boom echoed behind her.
"What the fuck was that?" Wendy screeched, turning her head ever so slightly just in time to see another large flash of light strike the earth. Debris flew everywhere afterwards, but the strikes didn't stop there. "Lightning? Are you kidding me?"
The bolts fell from the sky in rapid and dangerous strikes: they slammed into the ground, obliterating anything in the area around it as if it were mere dust. It made her ears ring as all sense of sound disappeared; only every ten seconds did she hear another loud boom before the process was repeated again, and again. By the time seven strikes had hit the earth, it was almost impossible to breathe and see. The building she so desperately wanted to take shelter in seemed ages away now.
Wendy screamed when a lightning bolt struck feet away from her. The blast knocked her and Newt to the ground, but just as fast as she fell, she stood back up. Thomas had helped Newt as Minho helped her. His arms were around her waist, making sure she was okay before they began running again.
Bright light flashed with each strike, but no rain came. What kind of storm was this?
Just as fast as the thought came, another bolt struck the ground. Almost everyone was knocked back, especially Thomas, who horrifyingly flew a long ways back from the energy that struck before his feet.
Wendy wiped her eyes and stood up, almost wishing for death because the storm was far worse than anything she had ever encountered. Before her eyes was Jack, lying inside a crater without clothes, for the material had been burned off. He had no hair and his skin was the color of pure red from the burn and impact of the lightning. Wendy couldn't even express what it was like to see him bleeding out excessively, anything below his knee completely gone, limbs soaking in blood the color of tar.
"We need to go!" Newt yelled by her ear. She was surprised that she could hear him, but even then, Wendy felt completely numb. This was pure chaos.
The sound of the storm continued to grow as they kept running. Minho, Thomas, Frypan, Isabella. They were no where in sight. Wendy felt her heart racing and thumping as her hands grasped onto Newt's jacket. She wasn't going to lose him. Not him.
Another blast happened a few feet away from them, and Wendy could see two people fly backwards from the air strike. But they continued running anyway.
And finally, they made it to the building.
Wendy practically threw herself inside while Newt seemed to help someone in. She didn't see who it was until the sound of moaning filled her ears and her eyes landed upon the burned figure known as Minho.
Wendy felt her heart stop when he was slowly let to rest on the ground. His eyes were closed, limbs still after he curled up into a ball. She didn't dare touch him though, knowing that the contact would only cause more pain to his wounds. Wendy could only sit and stare, hoping that he'd make it through whatever he had just endured.
Newt fell into place next to her. His face was caked with dirt and scrapes like hers, hair containing bits and pieces of debris. They didn't look at each other, didn't say a word. They just sat there, holding hands, breathing in the thick air as time passed by slowly.
And soon, they fell asleep, not even noticing that the blonde girl they were keeping prisoner had disappeared during the storm.

and IMPORTANT NEWS: I have published a new book, and it's a Newt one!
unlike this story where both girls were not in the maze at the same time, my new book called Pacify Her, will contain two new female characters in the glade at one time.
HERE IS THE SUMMARY:
"Pacify her, she's getting on my nerves,
You don't love her, stop lying with those words."
—
Idris, Subject A17, Female: the first girl to ever be sent up in the box with nothing more than a blooming curiosity for the place she was transported to and a new found sense of liking towards the boy that's second in command.
Anna, Subject A18, Female: the second girl to be sent up to the glade a week after the first. she is the definition of kindness, a strong example of a person that possesses all the qualities of perfection. Anna finds her new home welcoming, and soon finds herself taking liking to a boy with blonde hair and dark eyes.
Newt, Subject A5, Male: a boy trying to find himself again despite the pain he endures everyday. he didn't think that the two new arrivals would be the ones to piece himself back together, yet tear him apart all the same.

I hope you all will take a look at the story, but in the meantime, thank you for sticking with these slow updates and goodbye!
