Chapter One - We've Been Saved

[this story follows everything in the book and will carry no traces of the movie]

The bus ride was long, nerve-recking, and very crucial for all of the remaining Gladers. The air was thick with tension, not to mention the fact that a lady was sitting in the back telling Thomas and the rest of the Gladers facts about what happened before their memories were wiped. Ava was right, the sun flares had caused all of this, everything, the places they used to live, they were all gone.

Wendy clenched onto Newt's hand as the driver kept driving recklessly, the bus turning sharply at random times and running into things, but that wasn't the worst part. These people, what the woman and guards called cranks, kept running towards the bus the entire way. Wendy and Newt were holding each other the entire time as well, feeling sickened and scared as they collided with the bus and would try clawing their way inside by banging against the windows. It was a horrible sight, one that Wendy and Newt didn't want to experience but had to.

Then two hours later, the bus stopped.

Wendy looked up and saw that she had done the same thing as everyone else, slowly peak their heads up just to see that they had pulled into a muddy parking lot with a very gigantic and tall building in the middle of it. Wendy watched as the people who rescued them quickly ushered them out of the bus and into the building. Newt and Wendy stayed close to each other, hand in hand until they finally arrived inside.

She took a quick peek before they pushed them upstairs into a dormitory that seemed better than anything they had at the glade, but if she was going to be honest, she missed it. She missed the place where there was no crazy people trying to eat them through the windows.

Wendy's eyes slightly brightened as she eyed the colorful room, spotting the red blankets and green curtains that covered the darkness she didn't want to see outside. After the mutual colors of green, grey, black, and hints of brown at the glade, this was a defiant change.

But that wasn't what made her happy. What made her smile smally was the proper beds she saw lined up, bunk beds pushed up near walls with dressers nearby and tables in the middle of it all. It seemed too good to be true, and she guessed that everyone was thinking the same thing because Minho said, "I've been shucked and gone to heaven." the moment he walked in.

"I call top." she hummed to Newt as they all chose beds. The blonde rolled his eyes and followed her, seeing smiles across everyone's faces besides the pain they all felt. It was a dull pain, one they all wished they didn't have in the midst of happiness. But they felt it and the best they could do was welcome it or ignore it.

Wendy jumped on top and dangled her feet over the edge, only to see Newt stand right below her with a large smile while looking up at the girl. Wendy grinned back and leaned down, her hands clenching onto the edge of the top bed to keep from falling over as her lips met Newt's. She felt his hands cup her face softly as they kissed slowly, ignoring the herd of whistles and laughs around them as they did.

"And in it all, they still found love." A woman's voice spoke, and Wendy and Newt pulled away and looked over at the group of rescuers who were smiling widely at them. Wendy blushed, as did Newt before they chuckled.

"You all get settled, we're bringing in pizza in five." One of the women said before Frypan gasped.

"Pizza?" he grinned, "Like really greasy and tasty pizza?"
