39: Protecting Home

"What?" Kili asked while holding me. "What do you mean?"

"I-I can't do this," I stammered and stepped back so his hands left me.

I turned around and ran out the room. My thoughts kept slamming into my head, and I knew no matter how far I ran, they would still creep on me. I ran outside until I got to the rampart and tried to regain my breathing.

There was no way we could go to war. Everyone would die. Everyone would die and it would be fruitless. The Orcs would rain down from the sky, and no one other than their vile race would survive.

Thorin was too deep in his dragon sickness to listen to a fraction of what I had to say, and no one would believe me. Tales of a girl who could see the future? Everyone would burn me at a stake for witchcraft.

And it was so stifling. There were no windows – zero ventilation. There was one door at the barricade, and I didn't even know if anyone could classify it as a door. It was only a narrow space that would allow one to two dwarves at a time. How did the dwarves initially survive in there for so long?! I'd go mad in less than a month.

I pressed my hands to my head as tears dripped down my face. The war would kill each race until only the Orcs were left; how could no one understand that? I couldn't do anything – no one would listen. Dwarves were too power hungry to listen to reason, humans wanted gold to rebuild their homes, and elves wanted a handful of jewels. The whole world's gone mad. How could I save it?

I wiped my face and tried to think. If the Orcs weren't here, that meant that many were coming. How? Were they going underground? On foot? Well of course, there were no cars. I sighed and thought about the amount I saw. There were a great number of Orcs – which outnumbered the elves two to one probably – and the humans were too fragile to be in a supernatural war. The dwarves' battle tactics were great, but what killed all of us in the end? Did Azog finally get to kill the Durin line once and for all? My stomach started to ache again, and I pressed my hand to it.

My ears picked up on footsteps, and they stopped when they landed behind me.

"We are all going to die," I said without looking at the person.

The person responded, "Everyone is confused on why you ran out. You have always loved being with swords before."

"So they sent the jokester to try and cheer me up?" I cocked an eyebrow and turned around to look at Bofur.

"Actually, lass," he said, "I was just the first to find you."

I turned back around to stare at the scenery.

"What did you mean by that?" He asked me.

I sighed, "T-the sword... the sword Kili held. It showed me something."

"Is that another one of your... powers?" He asked cautiously.

"I will not kill you for questioning me, Bofur." I turned and smiled at him. "You can ask me whatever you want."

He asked the obvious question. "What did you see?"

"Death. A lot of it. The Orcs des-"

"Orcs?" He cut me off. "What Orcs? You mean Azog and his army?"

I nodded. "There are many. It is more like two Orc armies than one."

"How's that possible? There are no Orcs here," he said.

I replied, "That's because they are coming. Everyone is just too mad to sit down and talk. We go to war tomorrow, correct?"

"Aye."
