FEAR
We often mistake death as a means to an end and an end to a means.
It's not.
Death is an uncontrollable force that can't be used and can't be defined. We try, oh, we humans try so incredibly hard, but no matter how hard we try or how much we want, it's impossible because death is something that transcends the understanding of our puny little existences.
That's what makes it so terrifying.
But what's so terrifying about Amaryllis Chrysanthemum's death isn't the fact that she has now ventured into the unknown.
Rather, the most terrifying thing about her death is that a child, someone who we humans seem to think of as invincible, was the one to die.
