Chapter 8

**Sam’s POV**

I couldn’t help but let out a sigh as I looked into the full-length mirror holding onto the locket around my neck that meant the world to me.

“You seem miserable.” I heard Anna say as I watched her in the mirror walking up behind me in a short gold dress.

“Well I’m not.” I lied.

“Liar.” She said as she stood and looked at herself in the mirror.

“To be honest I don’t even know why I’m here?” I said as I turned to her.

Anna forced me to come with her to shop for a homecoming dress, no matter what I said she wouldn’t take no for an answer.

“To find a beautiful dress for homecoming!” she said excitedly but I just shook my head.

“You know Matty didn’t ask me, and from what I saw today I doubt he will.” I said sadly.

“Sam don’t say that. Matty loves you more than anything, you know he’s going to ask you…” she said but I wasn’t so sure about that.

“He’ll get over all the rumors, trust me…” she said and I nodded.

But I couldn’t help but feel a little happy that Matty didn’t ask me yet, because homecoming wasn’t something that I was looking forward to.

“Listen is this about him and Vicky?” she asked from inside the dressing room as I searched for a dress on a near by rack.

“What do you mean?” I asked puzzled.

“Well from what I hear, Matty and Vicky were getting a little cozy in study hall…” She said before I let out a deep breath.

“That wasn’t it at all…” she said as she walked out of the dressing room wearing a black small dress.

I shook my head in response, because to be honest I wasn’t even sure what to say.

When I thought about Vicky and Matty together I knew I should feel sad and upset or jealous…but I wasn’t.

It was like I couldn’t feel any more pain or hurt than I already did. It was as if I expected it…

“Homecomings a week away, he still has time to ask…and if he doesn’t then you can go with me and Jesse…” she said with a smile.

“I don’t think that would help the situation at all…” I said.

“If he doesn’t ask me I probably wont go.” I said and I heard her gasp.

“Samantha Lynn Rodriguez!” Anna said dramatically as I looked at her with a raised eyebrow.

“You have to go! You cant let Vicky win, every year you come and show her who’s boss…what changed?” she said but as soon as she asked she already knew her answer as I saw the regret on her face.

“I did.” I said and she looked down embarrassed.

“Listen even Jesse thinks you should definitely come!” she said and I looked over at her puzzled.

“We were talking about it and he said that you could tag along with us. He even told me that would be the best thing to do in order to fix things between you and Matty.” She said and I looked at her with wide eyes.

“You guys were talking about it?” I said questioningly in disbelief.

“Well yeah…but I thought it would be best if I got a guys perspective.” She said but I just shook my head.
