Start from the beginning

“Oh J.D...” She sobbed. “Yes everything’s fine.”

“then why are you crying?”

“you are grown up now. Not a little boy now. You have become such a man...”

I wiped her tears away. “and that’s a bad thing?”

“no, no...It’s great. I’m so proud of you. Of what you have become. It’s just...It seems like only yesterday you were playing with little to cars and now you...and you’re driving them...and...”

She cried again. “But I remember the times I wasn’t here for you and I know you hated us for it a long time.”\

“God mom I could never hate you. I was sad and alone but I never hated you.”

I hugged her tighter and rubbed her back.

“I love you mom.”

“I love you too sweetie.”

I pulled away and kissed her cheek. She smiled and pulled my and to the fridge. She opened it and there was a big no a giant chocolate cake

“I made it for you.”

“Mom...”I didn’t know what to say.

“I didn’t know you could cook.”

She burst laughing and closed the fridge. “And for your present.”

“Yes?” I asked excited.

“Come with me.”

We walked into the garden when she showed me a box. I lifted it up and under it laid a little puppy.

“it’s...it’s....”

“it’s a puppy.” Monica screamed from behind.

“I can see that.” I laughed and lifted the sleepy puppy in my lap

“It’s a husky. And it’s a male.”

“I have the feeling this was your idea.” I turned to Monica.

“Well it was this or a unicorn.”

“Does it have a name?”

“Nope. I thought maybe you can give him one.”

“I have to think about it. Does Julie know about this?”

“she convinced me not to buy you a unicorn.”

I laughed. “remind me to thank her.”

Monica poked me and pouted.

“I was just joking.”

“I’ll go and bring some milk for the new member of our family.”

Mom walked out of the garden and left me and Monica alone

“So....do you know anything about Julie’s gift?”

“I might or might not.”

“which is it?” I stroked the puppy’s hair while i was waiting for an answer.

“i know it.”

“can you tell me? I promise I’ll act surprised.”

“no. I am not telling you.”

“oh come on.”

“i can’t. I promised.”

“Julie will forgive you.”

“Jake blackmailed me sorry.”

“He is in this too?”

“Yap.”
