Minho began walking, guiding everyone with his voice. Wendy felt nerves bundle in her stomach as she did, feeling slightly anxious from the closed walls they were encased in and the tight space between her and Newt and her and Thomas. She wasn't going to say it out loud, but she kinda wished they would've just killed them all instead of putting them through all of this misery.

For a long period of time, they walked silently and without problem. That was until something like a whisper fell over them all that made everyone stop.

"Did you guys hear that?" Minho asked, making Wendy instantly grab Newt's hand when a cold feeling settled over her.

The boys hand made a calm sensation come over her as an effect, Wendy slightly moving closer when they continued walking and heard the same whisper from earlier sound again.

"Did anyone get what it said?" Newt called out, squeezing her hand tighter when it dawned over them again.

"Couple of words." Winston responded. "Sounded like "go back" right in the middle."

"Yeah, it did." someone agreed.

Wendy gulped when Minho told everyone to listen, the air turning silent for seconds as it appeared again.

"One-chance deal. Go back now, you won't be sliced." it said clearly.

When all the gladers started throwing out questions about what it said in panicked voices, Wendy's fear heightened and she yelled out instinctively, "Shut it and let the leader bloody decide! All of you all sound like yappin' babies."

"The voice is just a test." Thomas finally said after everyone silenced from the only girl's loud voice. "We need to keep going."

From the front, Minho agreed and instructed for everyone to keep going as said.

And so they did.

Wendy heard a boy screamed.

Her feet stopped moving instantly when the loud noise echoed through the hall they were in. She had no idea what was going on from both the fear that paralyzed her and the fact that everything was pitch black. She was frozen, her mouth open as the horrible noises filled her ears and forbidded her from moving.

"Wendy!" Newt called out, "Wendy are you okay?" he asked desperately, his warm hands grabbing her arms and slowly making their way up to her face in the dark.

Wendy couldn't seem to speak, frozen as she heard the rest talk about what was happening. The noises were too much, it reminded her of something, of something she couldn't remember, but whatever it was had made her unresponsive because Newt couldn't seem to get ahold of her.

"Wendy. Wendy. Wendy!" he shouted, his hands on her face. "Are you okay?"

The blonde completely ignored the calls of concerns from everyone, his sole gaze and focus on the girl who was in front of him at the moment. His hands felt her smooth skin as he tried to snap her out of whatever was going on. But no matter how much he tried though, he couldn't seem to get her to talk or respond in any way.

Newt felt his chest tighten, a panic spreading through him after minutes of no response. His heart was thumping like a drum against his chest, his head paining him because of the amount of panic coursing through him. It was almost like he was being deprived of oxygen. With each second of not hearing a sarcastic or conceding remark come from Wendy's mouth making it harder for him to breathe.
