Alex. Alex was her art teacher. Which meant she could have nothing to do with him. She felt dangerously nauseous at that thought. Her mind switched to her thoughts of him before she found out he was her teacher as if someone had changed the channel. The dates she had imagined, the painting together, the lazy nights of just watching movies at his flat, talking to his cousins. Her dreams of what they could have become flashed tantalizingly before her eyes, like a lifetime of happiness with Alex. A lifetime. Was she really thinking like that after a week of being with Alex? They weren't even a couple. They weren't anything. Easy to erase. Except there would always be that faint trace of them.

The door opened but Amber flung herself into a cubicle and securely locked the door.

"Amber?" It was Zora. "We don't have to talk about this."

Of course Zora knew where she was. She was just giving her time. Saf probably sent her in.

"So he's your teacher. Maybe it'll be like some kinky romance."

Amber's face was on fire.

"Oh wipe that blush off of your face," she said knowingly, making Amber smile. "Nothing's actually happened. He just happened to be the guy who rescued you. That's all. Come out and talk to me, Ambs."

Amber took a steadying breath and unlocked the door.

Zora flashed a grin at her. "Come on, let's go find Saf."

None of them mentioned Alex again. Amber was grateful not to have run into him again that day, though she had the feeling that he was avoiding her at all cost. She felt bad for having ruined his first day here but she was helpless. Zora and Saf did a good job of keeping her mind off of him. She instead vented her feelings about Annette to them.

Zora dropped her carton of apple juice all over the table when Amber mentioned the pregnancy to them at lunch. Saf gaped at Amber spoke.

"Guys, please don't mention it when we see Matty tonight. I don't want it to become about me," Amber pleaded with them after she had explained the events of last night.

Zora rolled her eyes. "But it is about you. So he broke up with his girlfriend. This is huge. What's Ann going to do?"

Amber stared down at her half eaten plate of food and shrugged. "I didn't get a chance to talk to her. She really wants this baby but I'm worried about her. She just about knows how to care for herself. I don't think she's ready for this."

"You don't think your dad meant what he said, do you?" Saf questioned. "He's a reasonable man."

Amber sighed. "That's what I kept telling Ann last night. I've never seen him like this before. I knew he'd be mad but never like this."

Saf was watching Amber with a concerned expression on his face, which she caught and responded to with a weak smile.

"Can we change the subject, please?" she asked, pushing her tray away from her as she decided she had lost her appetite.

Zora and Saf exchanged a worried glance but didn't object.

"So, I'm thinking for applying for this modelling gig," Zora told them.
