A/N: I take no credit for the scene further below that is from Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare. I attached a clip above from one of the movie versions done of Romeo and Juliet. That scene will be the same one that Alex and Cassie are practicing later on in this chapter.

Alex's POV

Once Cassie opened up her door, I noticed how silent it was in her house. I guess her mom went to sleep.

Cassie pulled my hand and led me to her bedroom, saying that she would help clean my wounds.

She grabbed the first aid kit out of her bathroom and walked towards me.

"Sit on the bed. I need to clean out the wound so it doesn't get infected", she spoke.

Wordlessly, I sat and slightly winced when she disinfected the deep cut on my knuckles.

After she wrapped up my hand with a gauze and put a patch on the cut on my cheek, I looked up at her. But she swiftly moved her head down and avoided my gaze.

I pulled her chin and moved it so she could look at me. I saw how visibly shaken she was.

"Hey, I'm fine. Yeah I got a few cuts but they will just scar," I softly said to her.

Her lip began to tremble. "W-w-hhat if you hadn't been so lucky this time. You could have seriously gotten hurt!" she said.

Sigh. I know she had a point. But I was going to do my best to calm her down and reassure her.

I pulled a loose strand of her wavy hair and pulled it back behind her ear. "I know you're upset that I was fighting, but I couldn't just let that a*hole think he could say and do those things to you or any girl for that matter. He needed to be put in his place. It wasn't okay and I needed to do something about it. I know fighting him wasn't a smart approach, but I was SO mad at what he did that I couldn't even think clearly. I'm sorry that you were scared, but I'm fine now. Enough about me, how are you doing with everything?", I asked her.

I saw a few tears run down her face and I wiped them off her face. "It's just a lot to take in now. I was petrified. I didn't see you or anyone from our gang and I couldn't get him to let go of me. If you hadn't come, he would have pulled me to someplace and did who knows what. I'm just extremely glad that you came when you did though-", she softly replied.

"I'm glad I got there when I did. I feel bad that this was your first high school party though and you had to experience this...", I spoke.

"Nothing to do about it now though...", she responded as more tears began to descend down her cheek.

"Hey, don't cry. A beautiful girl like you shouldn't be crying," I whispered to Cassie.

Cassie's POV

I was in complete shock when I heard Alex say that. Once it finally registered what he said, I moved my head up to look at his face.

Alex's POV

The words tumbled out of my mouth without me knowing, but I didn't regret what I said.

When she looked up at me, I couldn't help but stare at her gorgeous green eyes. I was completely drawn to them and couldn't help but fall deeper into them.

I leaned towards her and I noticed that she was leaning towards me as well. I stopped when I was a few inches from her face. I glanced at her lips and glanced back to her eyes to see if she would pull away. She didn't.

"Cass", I whispered as I leaned even closer to her. Just as we were about to kiss, we heard a truck blare its horn.

We snapped away from each other's faces and glanced away from each other.

"Well, I should get going. Don't want my mom to get worried about me being out so late," I told Cassie.

"Yep, you're right. Goodnight Alex and thanks again for tonight," she responded.

"No problem, Cassie. I'm always here for you," I replied with a gentle smile on my face.

"Night, Cass", I said as I left her house.

Next Day

Cassie's POV

When I reached my locker, I was immediately swarmed by my friends.

They all asked me how I was doing and what happened when I went back to my house.

I told them that I was feeling better from last night and told them about the almost kiss between me and Alex. My friends squealed so loud that everyone in the hallway looked at them.

"Hey! What are you guys looking at!!!!!! We're allowed to squeal if we want to. Now go and mind your own business!" Megan told our classmates.

Everyone turned their heads back around and went back to their business.

"Girls, I know you are all excited but it doesn't change anything between us. Alex is still dating Tiffany and I'm sure what almost happened occurred because of the heat of the moment. Besides, it would be awkward if I brought it back up and he doesn't feel the same way...", I explained to the girls.

The girls tried to reassure me but I didn't want to talk about it anymore so we just went to class.

A.P. Lit

As the girls and I sat in the theater, the guys ran over to us.

They all turned to me and asked how I was feeling. I was immensely grateful that I had such an amazing group of friends who cared about me. I reassured them that I was fine and our teacher came in.

"Good afternoon, class. Today, we will be doing the ball scene when Romeo sets his eyes on Juliet for the first time and they kiss," Mrs. Hooper said.

"If all the characters that are in this scene will come up on stage, then we can get started", she spoke with enthusiasm in her voice.

I felt hesitant about doing this scene after the almost kiss that occurred last night, but I knew I needed to forget about that and focus on the play.

Alex's POV

As I saw Cassie walk up stage, I couldn't help but notice how hesitant and unsure she looked. I felt the exact same way. We didn't get a chance to talk about last night, but I wanted to make her feel comfortable doing this scene with me.

I gave her a smile and she smiled back and seemed to become more relaxed.

"ACT I SCENE V and action!", Aaron directed.

(Below are the words from the play Romeo and Juliet)

ROMEO

Have not saints lips, and holy palmers too?

JULIET

Ay, pilgrim, lips that they must use in prayer.

ROMEO

O, then, dear saint, let lips do what hands do.

They pray; grant thou, lest faith turn to despair.

JULIET

Saints do not move, though grant for prayers' sake.

ROMEO

Then move not, while my prayer's effect I take.

Cassie's POV

This was the part where we're supposed to kiss. As Alex was leaning in to kiss me, my stomach turned into knots and I ran off the stage and out the doors.

I heard Alex's footsteps pound on the floor chasing after me.

The gang looked at each other and began to smile as they saw Alex chasing after Cassie. They hoped that their friends would soon get together.
