Chapter 39: Truth

"I may be crying right now but I am happy for you. I may have left and I may be leaving again but what I have for you never changed and will never change. And now that you have finally decided to leave, I just want you to know.. I really do love you... 

...but I can never be with you."

Anne's POV

Time flies really fast, my birthday came and surprisingly, I mean no, not so surprisingly because I know that bitch will always do something to ruin my day, I didn't have a birthday celebration. 

Dad asked me to be home early for us to have a mini birthday celebration in the evening since I have a class in the afternoon, but unfortunately, when I arrived home, mom and dad is nowhere to be found.

"Where's everyone?" I asked with a cracking voice because I know, my birthday celebration will not push through.

"Ahh ehh ma'am Anne, si ma'am Karylle po kasi sinu—" aling Puring said but she was cut off in her midsentence by aling Nena

"Shh, 'wag nga daw sabihin 'di ba?" she said which made me frown.

"'Wag sabihin ang alin?" I asked while raising my brows. Obviously, they are hiding something from me. They are even signaling each other on who is going to talk and what are they going to say. "Ano? What about Karylle?" I asked in a bitter tone.

"Ahh ehh kas—kasi po si ma'am K.." aling Puring nervously said but again, she was cut off by aling Nena

"Kasi po," aling Nena started. "Si Ma'am Karylle po kanina, nagyayang lumabas.." she nervously said while looking down. "Eh... ayun p-po. Sabi po niya sa mga magulang niyo, b-bukas nalang daw po kayo magcelebrate k-kasi..." she said when aling Puring butt in. I frowned.

"K-kasi po, mas importante pa raw po 'yung lakad niya kaysa sa birthday celebration niyo" she said. I clenched my fist the moment I heard that from her.

"Oo.. oo 'yun p-po" Aling Nena said. "'Yun po ang t-totoo" I looked up as I try to hold back my tears before I faced them again, nodded and forced a smile.

"At saka k-kasama rin po nila 'yung kaibigan niya si-si Jhong p-po" Aling Puring added.

I felt pain in my chest the moment I heard that. My breathing became heavy but I tried my best to compose myself.

I remember, three days ago, yes it was 14th of February, I went home early after class since I don't have a date or whatsoever with Solenn because we had a major fight again.

I overheard Karylle and Jhong talking in the kitchen which made me stop walking.

"...kasi Karylle, ano kasi ehh, alam ko naman na magkaibigan tayo. Pero kasi, nagaalangan pa rin ako. Pwede bang ipangako mo sa'kin na.. na—"

"Na ano? We're best friends. Alam mo namang kahit ano pwede mong sabihin sa'kin 'di ba?"she said. "Jhong, you know that I love you right? You can tell me anything." I felt pain the moment she uttered those three words. Those three words that I always want to hear from her before and after saying my name; those three words that I doubt hearing from her.

"Karylle," he nervously said. I even saw him holding her hand and leaning closer to her. "Karylle, I'm—"

I didn't let him finish. I quickly ran into my room and locked myself there. I don't know why the hell I acted that way that day but one thing entered my head, he just admitted what he feels for Karylle.
