She gazed into his dark eyes. How could she say no to that face? "You're impossible."

His face broke out into his signature crooked grin. "I'm glad. Come on, your dinner awaits."

He got out of the car and opened the door for her. Amber had grown accustomed to having his warm arm around her waist. She instinctively slung her arm around his shoulder. The wound in her thigh still ached when she stretched her leg. Mr Riley had taken her to see a doctor after the wound had begun to bleed. The wound hadn't been stitched properly the first time and now that it was re-stitched, it still smarted when she walked on it.

She couldn't imagine walking beside Alex without his arm around her.

It didn't take them long to get to up the elevator and into his flat. They'd grown used to each other's movements and could predict what the other was thinking as they walked.

She collapsed on the couch, breathing heavily. "God, this is so unattractive."

Alex laughed. "The codependency thing? Totally hot."

He took her coat from her and placed it on the hook by his front door in the hallway. Amber waited for him to join her on the sofa before she spoke again.

She glanced at the bare dining table for the two behind him and at the spotless kitchen. "I was expecting dinner. You didn't burn everything, did you?"

Alex rubbed the back of his neck. "So, dinner was kind of a disaster. I can't cook. Never have and I probably never will."

Amber bit her lip, trying not to laugh. "You're kidding, right? You didn't feel the need to mention that to me the entire journey here?"

Alex seemed to be holding back his laughter too. He had a large grin plastered to his face as he spoke. "Well, I didn't want you to bail on me."

She couldn't help but laugh. "Alex, I'm in crutches, what would I have done? Jumped out of the car?"

He ran his hands threw his hair as he chuckled and shook his head amusedly. "So, I didn't cook for you but luckily I know someone who can cook."

Amber rolled her eyes. "If you wanted me to meet the family, Alex, you could have just asked."

The smile fell off her face as she gazed into his serious eyes.

"I... I was kidding. Alex, it's way too soon," she mumbled nervously, mentally cursing herself for having opened her mouth.

His eyes twinkled under sun that came streaming though the windows. "You've already met Eliza and Mike, Amber. They're the my people. It would mean a lot if you got to spend some time with them."

Amber shook her head frantically. "It's been a week and a have and you want me to meet your people?"

Her mouth fell open as she was not lost for words. She couldn't look anywhere but the sea of chocolate that were his eyes. She was still shaking her but it slowed to a halt.

"You're really sure about this," she stated, quietly. There was no doubt in his face, not even a flicker of apprehensiveness. He was staring intently into her eyes.

He took a stay curl that had fallen onto her face when she had been shaking her head and pushed it behind her ear. "I'm so sure."

He said it so quietly that she wondered if she had imagined it but the certainty was unquestionable.

She began to shake her head again. "I can't believe I'm letting you do this."

His face broke out into another crooked grin. He brought a shaky, hesitant hand towards her and cupped her face. He stroked her cheek with his thumb. "They're going to love you."
