Chapter 22 I Know You

"Ultron took you out to buy himself some time. My contacts say he's building something, but  with the amount of vibranium he made off with, I doubt it's just one thing."

"Is he still going after launch codes?" Tony asks.

"Yes, but he's not making any headway."

"What are launch codes?" I ask.

"Computer programming that launches nuclear missiles."

I look to Bruce.

"Things that make the world go 'boom.'"

"Oh."

"Anyways, I contacted our friends at Nexus."

"Nexus?" Steve asks, saving me some embarrassment.

"It's the world internet hub in Olso, every byte of data flows through there, fastest data processing in the world."

"So, what'd they say?" Clint asks.

"The codes are constantly being changed."

"By whom?" Tony asks, right as a dart flies past him, barely missing his nose. It sinks into the bullseye of the target.

Fury stares at it, "Parties unknown."

Natasha takes a seat at the table, "So we have an ally?"

"Well, an enemy of an enemy." Fury says.

"It's not the same thing, believe me. I took a 15 year semester on war strategy."

"Looks like we need to visit Olso, find our 'parties unknown.'" Tony says.

"And in the meantime, Ultron gets stronger." I say, "He knows that we'll be taking time to find the 'unknown', which gives him more time to make whatever it is he's been working on. We're giving him what he wants."

"And it only took you 15 years to figure that out?" Tony says with a smirk.

"You know, there are eight other worlds I could be saving."

"And what exactly is it that he wants?" Steve asks.

"To become better..."Bruce says, "He keeps building bodies."

"Person bodies, the human form is inefficient, biologically speaking, we're outmoded. But, he keeps coming back to it..." Tony finishes.

"For a program that's meant to save the world, you've failed on an amazing scale." Natasha says.

"They don't need to be saved, they need to evolve." Bruce says, "Ultron is going to evolve."

"That explains the twins." I mutter.

"Has anyone been in contact with Helen Cho?"

We all look around, until Clint speaks up, "No, why?"

"The regeneration cradle, it's used to recreate tissue, it's usually used on burn victims or people with flesh wounds, but Ultron could be using it for something else."

"That's how he's going to evolve." Tony says.

I stand up, "We need to go before he can."

"I'll go to the Nexus, find our unknown, and then meet up with you guys." Tony says.

"I'll take the rest to the cradle." Steve says.

I stand up and summon my armor, "Let's go."

"He's uploading himself to the body." A weak voice says over the speaker.

"Where?"

"The real power is inside the cradle. The gem, its power is uncontainable. You can't just blow it up. You have to get the cradle to Stark."
