Chapter 9

Riker POV

I heard a second scream, and that made me really scared. What's going on over there!? Was there really someone in her house? Was her dad hitting her? I grabbed my phone and dialed her number. It rang and rang, but she didn't pick up. My hands were starting to shake a little. Why isn't she answering!? I called again, getting the same result.

"Rocky, I'm going to Taylor's. Cover for me please?"

"Why should I?"

"Because you're my brother, and I pretended to be dad last week, calling the school to get you out of detention."

"Oh... Right."

"I don't know when I'll be back."

I grabbed my hoodie, and slipped on a pair of flip flops. I snuck downstairs, and out the front door. I sprinted to Taylor's, and knocked on her door. A minute later, Jake answered it.

"Riker. Come in. Is everything alright?"

"That's what I came over here to ask."

"Why?"

"I heard screaming."

"Oh. Taylor..."

"What happened? Is she ok?"

"She had a nightmare. Emily and I are trying to calm her down, but it's not really working. Maybe you can try."

"Um... Ok..."

I followed Jake upstairs in the dark. Taylor was crying hysterically in her bed.

"Emily, we're going to let Riker try. Let's go," Jake said, leaving.

I sat down next to Taylor.

"Taylor, what happened?" I asked, quietly.

"He's here!"

"Who's here!?"

"The guy in the black."

"Who?"

"There's a guy wearing all black, and he keeps trying to kill me!"

"Was that what you had a nightmare about?"

"Yes! But it felt so real!"

"Shhh! It's ok. It wasn't real."

Taylor covered her face with her hands, and continued crying.

"Taylor, it's ok. Come here."

Taylor threw her arms around my neck, hugging me tight. I rubbed her back slowly as she cried into my shoulder.

"Try to calm down, ok?"

"Ok..."

Taylor sighed into my shoulder. I just wanted her to stay in my arms forever.

"Are you ok?" I asked.

"Yeah..."

Taylor pulled away from me, and laid down in her bed.

"Why'd you come over?"

"I was worried about you."

"Oh..."

"I should probably get back home. I kind of snuck out..."

"Oh. Yeah, ok."

"Are you ok, though?"

"Yeah. Thanks."

I smiled to myself.

"Ok. I'll see you tomorrow, maybe," I said, walking towards her door in the dark.
