How did I end up like this?

First day

Monday morning, 6 am

Dani's pov

I woke up early. Lauren's still asleep. I barely slept last night I'm so stressed. I went to the movies yesterday with Polly. She wasn't as cold and closed as she was that Friday night. I think and hope we're gonna be good friends.

I went to the bathroom and took a shower. No one was up yet. I was in the shower for 20 minutes. I got back to my room and I had chosen an outfit for the day last night. I heard Lauren was up. She was at the bathroom.

The morning went as usually. I got dressed, brushed my teeth and hair and went downstairs for breakfast. Mom was there. She was reading the paper.

Mom: Good morning sweetie.
Dani: Mornin' mom. Where's Lauren?
Mom: Probably upstairs. I haven't seen her all morning.

I had breakfast and went to check on Lauren afterwards. She was in her room dressing up like heck.

Dani: Why are you getting so dressed up? It's just school?
Lauren: I know but I wanna look presentable.
Dani: You what?
Lauren: Look, these kids will probably judge us a lot. Since me and Kevin are dating, they have a new rumor to talk about. The new girl and cute guy are dating. Yay. 
Dani: Lauren, you and Kevin are dating. That's not a rumor.
Lauren: Whatever. I'm gonna eat breakfast.

The time 7:30 and I had nothing to do. I was pretty tired but school started at 8:30 and it took us 10 minutes to drive over there. We didn't have to go to the first class because the principal was gonna show us around, introduce us to everyone and give us a locker. So we had to get out at 8.

Lauren was still downstairs and she had to do pack lunch and do her hair which would take one hour at least. So I offered to pack her lunch while she did her hair. I didn't have anything better to do.

When I had made a turkey sandwich for her and packed it into her backpack, she was still doing her hair and the time was 7:55.

I shouted from the first floor to her room:

Dani: Lauren! We have to go now.
Lauren: In a minute.

I sighed and walked over to the piano and played a bit. Then Lauren came downstairs. She looked so... Beautiful. Don't get me wrong. I think Lauren is a very beautiful human being but now, she looked very very very beautiful. It was probably for Kevin.

We walked outside and stepped in the car. It was kind of cold outside. Not very cold, but cold when you think of California. The temperature was around 50°. We were not used to this cold.

We played Lauren's Spotify playlist on our way there. Something inside of me was panicking but i was trying to be calm. Last night, I wasn't stressed at all but now, it's like something's wrong. Lauren was as calm as ever. I've never seen her so relaxed.

We finally parked the car at the school parking lot and walked inside. I wish mom was here to support us. But Lauren seemed to handle things well when she asked for the principal near his office. She is usually very nervous and she can't speak in front of a lot of people and certainly not to strangers.

Then the principal came and showed us around. He showed us the cafeteria, the kids there and a lot of them seemed to recognize us. Lauren looked around for Kevin. She was sad when she didn't see him. The bell rang and everyone went to their classes. The principal took his time showing us around and he told us his name. I don't know why, but I think I will never be able to call him by his name. Just Mr Principal or something. I heard Lauren giggle when he told us his name was Dick Fagot. But he didn't seem to be a dick or a fagot so he's probably very nice.
