“Why didn’t you tell me?” Monica asked as we walked together to transfiguration. Since we were done with the O.W.L.s some of our professors canceled class, but Professor McGonagall insisted she had one more lesson and urged us to come to the last class.
“It wasn’t you. I didn’t tell anyone.” I answered.
She rolled her eyes. “Lucinda doesn’t know? What about Aly and Kay? Do they know?”
I sighed. “They didn’t. I didn’t tell them until recently. You don’t have to be mad.”
She huffed and stopped, turning to me. “Natalie, he’s not a good guy! He has done horrible things! You cannot seriously like him!”
I could see the concern in her eyes, but my heart didn’t care and didn’t budge. I knew she was upset, but what could I do? Leave Draco? Leave him right when we’re getting to where we both want to be?
“Well I do like him!” I shouted at her. She stepped back, shocked at my tone. “I love having you as my sister, Monica, but I can’t take you hating Draco. You don’t know everything he’s done for me and you sure as hell don’t know how good he makes me feel. So shut up. Just shut up, because you’re not going to change my mind.”
I watched the surprise on her face turn to anger and before she could say anything I walked away. Dealing with Monica was something I wasn’t used to. We got along great, but how do you argue with the sister you met only a couple of years ago? We had our whole childhood to make up for in fights and this was only the beginning.
So I stormed down the corridor and all the way down to the common room. I threw my books on the floor and planted myself on the black leather sofa.
“I thought you had class?” Kay asked when she came bouncing down the stairs and onto the sofa across from me.
“I don’t care.” I said.
“Who is it?”
“Monica.”
“Naturally.” She replied. “What happened?”
I recapped the story to Kay and she laughed when I told her about the boy Monica was with at the tower. She said it was probably the boy who goes by Trev. Apparently she’d seen Monica and him together before, although she neglected to inform me.
“She’s so upset with me and I don’t know why!” I complained.
“Nat, she’s known him for a long time and yes, he’s done some bad things, but she doesn’t see the good things about him. Don’t worry about it. She’ll come around.”
“And if she doesn’t?” I asked.
“If she doesn’t, does it really matter? She’s not in the relationship. You are. So damn you if you let her arse get in the way. It’s your life.” She shrugged and stood up.
“It’s not really a relationship.” I said.
“Oh, fuck you.” She laughed. “You think it’s not, but it is. Now, go find your lover boy and tell him it’s a goddamn relationship.” She smiled and walked away, heading towards her room.
I began looking for Draco, unsure where I’d find him. He wasn’t in his room and he didn’t have a class. After searching high and low I finally found him at a desk in the library.
“I’ve been looking for you.” I said as I sat down next to him.
“I’ve been here.” He looked up at me and I grinned, expecting him to return my expression, but he didn’t.
“What’s wrong?” I asked quietly.
He looked back at the book he had open and continued reading, not saying a word. I watched his eyes follow the words, letting my knee touch his. I drew tiny circles over his thigh with my index finger, but he didn’t respond, completely unlike Draco.
I eventually gave up and got up, walking away. It wasn’t until I heard his chair push out that I realized I was going the wrong direction, further into the depths of never-read books.
“Natalie,” He grabbed my wrist, jerking me back into him, lips crashing down on mine, pinning me against the bookshelf. My fingers clamped to his shirt, holding on for dear life. His hands pulled my hips into his, our lips moving like a perfect mess, wild and daring. Everything was in perfect rhythm with him, as it always was. I would forget, but his touch brought it back and his kiss made it real.
He suddenly pulled away, leaning his forehead against mine.
“I have something to tell you.” He said, gently kissing my head.
“Please don’t hate me.”
