Saturday Evening

I stood on my tip-toes, leaning against the bathroom sink. I peered into the mirror as I applied my make-up to perfection. Well, at least near perfection. It felt like it had been so long ago that I was doing this for that stupid asshole that cheated on me.

I heard my mother coming up the steps, she gasped dramatically when she saw me.

"Mi hija! Qué linda, you look beautiful."

"Aw, Thank you, mom."

"I am meeting this boy, right?"

"Of course. I think you'll love him." I reassure her, but she still looked concerned.

"Annalise, I hope you know, rushing into a new relationship may not be the best thing to do-"

"Mom, trust me. I know. We're not really dating yet, I really like him though. He's made me really happy and helped me get through a lot of things."

She simply smiles in response, with the hamper rested on her hip, she disappeared into the hallway.

I glanced up at the clock that read 5:45pm. He should be here any minute now.

I wonder how he was getting here... He doesn't even have a car. Uh oh.

I started having flashbacks of when Brad took me on a date and how he was so late. I tried to shake off the thoughts but it was still so fresh in my memory. It hasn't been that long ago since it had happened.

"Anna, someone's at the door for you!" I hear my mom call.

Thank God. I couldn't wait any longer.

"Okay," I casually say back. Giving myself a quick look in the mirror again. readjusting my shirt and grabbing my white fleece off of my bed.

I jogged down the steps, trying to contain my excitement. Tons of questions popped in my mind and they were quickly answered when I see Eugene making conversations with my mother.

"Hey, woah, Anna you look stunning," He gushed, and I obviously blushed. I studied his outfit aswell. He still had his glasses on but instead of a flannel, he wore a simple black button up with a black top hat.

"Thank you, I see you've met madre," I gesture towards her shorter figure that stood near him.

"Yes, she's a lovely lady." Eugene smiles and my mother grows giddy.

"Oh stop it, you'll make me go red!" My mother laughed. "Where are the two of you headed?"

"Well, I was thinking dinner and a movie? If that's alright with you."

"Of course, don't stay out too late, though. Have fun you two." She smiled, going about her way.

"You ready?" He smiles.

"Ready as I'll ever be," I breath out. I attempt at opening the door but he stops me and opens it before I could reach.

"Thank you," I say, giving him a quick peck on the cheek before stepping out of the house.

"So what'd you say that made her swoon over you so quickly?"

"Who? Your mom?"

I nod.

"I just introduced myself, that's all," he says innocently. He opened the car door to let me in. I adjusted myself and waiting for him to go into the drivers seat.

"It must be your adorably dorky charm."

"Nah, it couldn't be."

"That's what got me," I say, quickly feeling myself blush at how cheesy that sounded.
