Chapter 24 - The Key

Hold up, meet you. Where the hell are you?

Currently hiding from the Brazilian mafia

What the hell! You're in Brazil" Everyone looked at me,

"Look, you're with Ricardo aren't you, I'll be there by tonight. Don't ask me any more questions; I'll explain when I get to you okay. Just don't lose that stick and don't leave the house" She hung up,

"Tammara's in Brazil and she's coming here"

"Holy shit, seriously" Noah said,

"Seriously," I began to walk off, "I'm going to catch a few, looks like it's going to be a long night"

"I'll join you if you don't mind" Tayte said,

"I'm not exactly going to say no," No surprises that we were joined by Arii, Noah and Angelo a few minutes later, I groaned,

"I won't make a sound" Noah promised,

"That's not in your nature lil' bro" I said, rolling onto my stomach and wrapping my arms around the pillow,

"It is starting from...now"

"It won't last" I mumbled, I felt the bed dip, Tayte.

"Give him a chance" Tayte said, Arii grabbed her headphones and sat on the floor below the window listening to music and Angelo sat on the other bed's edge on his phone.

10 minutes later,

"Okay I can't do it. I'm bored"

"Told you" I said,

"Sorry, but I swear I have like that hyperactive disorder. What's it called?"

"ADHD" Angelo replied,

"Yeah, ADHD, isn't that when you're super hyper and want to run around all the time and..."

"Noah"

"Yes Keane?"

"Shut up"

"Okay sorry," I sighed, Tayte ruffled my hair,

"Get off me" I said,

"It's not like you're going to get any sleep is it, with Noah's hyper ass"

"I guess not" I said, getting up,

"Where are you going? I said I was sorry" Noah said,

"For some air" I answered.

I was sat outside the house, on the bottom step on street level, a few little boys ran past giggling, kicking a football. It had just gone 6pm and the evening was beginning to draw in. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that in our parents coming back this would all happen. There were so many secrets, so many lies. I know I hadn't had a normal life since Mum and Dad had left, but at least it'd been stable. Arii went to school, I worked and Noah was in college and then working. Things were at least as normal as they could be. Sometimes I think that maybe we were better off without our parents, that it was a mistake for us to go running for our life and to find them.

"What are you thinking about?" Tayte asked sitting next to me,

"I'm thinking that maybe it was a mistake to find our parents, even though it turned out that they found us. All that's come since is bad luck and pain"

"That's not true, we had a good 2 months in America"

"Exactly, 2 months, how messed up are Noah and Arii going to be because of this. I thought I'd done okay for 4 years, to make things as normal as they could be and then a bombshell hits and the debris is full of destruction"

"I think we're all a bit messed up and remember that if it wasn't for you, Noah and Arii wouldn't have been able to cope, been able to survive"

"I couldn't have done it without you though Tay'"

"Thanks buddy; I would have never let you do it alone"

"I swear you two are secretly gay" Noah's voice said loudly coming outside, we both laughed, "Not that I wouldn't be okay with that, but I'm sure Arii would be livid"

"Why would I be livid?" Arii asked coming into view,

"If Keane and Tayte were secretly gay and together"

"You know one day I'm going to beat you" I told Noah who laughed,

"You can try" He sang,

"You're not though right, Keane you'd never do that to me, Tayte you said...you said..."

"Hold up, we're not secretly gay and we're not a couple" I said,

"But if that did happen would you be mad?" Tayte asked, I glared at him,

"Yes I'd be mad" She exclaimed,

"I'm only teasing" Tayte said,

"Well don't" Arii replied,

"Yeah Tayte, don't. That really hurts my feelings" I said smiling at him,

"You little bugger" Tayte said grinning at me,

"This isn't funny anymore, someone be straight and tell me" Arii said,

"Straight, that's not possible" I laughed, receiving high fives from Tayte and Noah,

"You guys suck, honestly I live with a bunch of immature idiots" she said heading back inside,

"I think she's mad" Noah said,

"I think it was worth it" Tayte said,

"Can I ask you a serious question though?"

"Depends what that question is" I told him,

"You two would tell me if you were an item right?" we looked at each other, "Your not are you? You're not gay?"

"It's complicated" Tayte answered, "We're not a couple, but I love Keane so much, I'd do anything for him and I know he'd do the same for me. It's weird, because people always talk about finding your soul mate, well Keane is mine and as stupid as it sounds, he's always going to be in my life"

"I love you too Tayte, always and forever. I feel the same way too, always have done and always will" I said,

"Hell do I love you two, like seriously, I wouldn't want anyone else except you two as brothers," we both smiled,

"Perhaps not mention that to Arii, for now anyway" Tayte said,

"Noted. But you still didn't answer my question about being gay" Noah said,

"Food" Arii called, Tayte and I just smiled and headed in, followed by Noah who was watching us closely, she was helping Carlita bring food to the table when we went in,

"Where's my prince?" Noah asked,

"On the phone in the bedroom. I don't think it's a happy conversation, I think something might have happened"

"Oh" Noah replied sadly, just as Angelo came out and into view, "Is everything okay babe?"

"My Mum's been in an accident and was taken into hospital an hour ago" He said, Noah wrapped his arms around him,

"I'm so sorry baby"

"Angelo we fully understand that you're going to head home"

"No...I'll..."

"Don't say anything, you're going Angelo, I'll look to book a flight for you as soon as possible," he nodded.

So dinner was a solemn affair, we were all worried about Mrs Trego and even more worried about Angelo.

I was worried that things weren't ever going to get better!
