Chapter 24 - The Key

"In a minute. Você conhece ele? Você sabe como chegar a sua casa?"

"She's Ricardo's sister" I said,

"What are the chances of that?" Tayte answered,

"Keane Linkoln and Tayte Marcillo" I then said to her,

"Linkoln, Joey and Rhina?" She said,

"They're my parents," she pulled me into a hug,

"I take that as a good thing" Tayte said,

"It's no safe to leave now. I speak to Ricardo, say you here, say I get you safe. You stay, wait" She said in broken English, for Tayte's sake no doubt,

"Thank you" Tayte said,

"They give familia lots, so much"

"More than what they gave us" I muttered, but Tayte heard me, he waited until she disappeared,

"You don't know what your parents have sacrificed" He said,

"Don't defend them"

"I'm not, I'm just saying..."

"Well don't" I snapped, "Sorry, sorry...my heads pounding, my legs fucked. I'm not feeling too good"

"Stop apologising, it's probably my fault, I made you run on your leg"

"Put it this way, we're not going anywhere until I've slept, at least a few hours"

"I second that" Tayte agreed,

"We go through tunnels. Ricardo say it no safe. Men outside, they look for you"

"This is just awesome"

"Do not worry, I keep you safe"

"Thank you..." I paused, since we still didn't know her name,

"Lorena"

"Thank you Lorena,"

She then told us to make ourselves comfortable and not to be alarmed if a man came into the house, it would be her son. I sat down on the small sofa and shut my eyes,

"Why don't you sleep for a bit? I'll make sure we're not murdered on an ambush" Tayte said,

"Nah, can't give you that responsibility" I teased,

"Seriously, if you're struggling Keane, I'll hold the fort"

"Just text Angelo and let him know what's happening and that we haven't been killed or kidnapped okay"

"Okay," I took a breath and shut my eyes, still shaken from the dream of being shot by Galviao and dying, I touched my chest,

"Are you going to tell me? Or do I have to beat it out of you?" Tayte said a few minutes later,

"I don't know what you're talking about"

"Cute Keane. But cut the bullshit, you said nothing it didn't happen. I was dreaming, it didn't happen. What did you dream?"

"Where do I start?"

"What'd you mean?"

"You said you were there for me if I wanted to tell you of the nightmares I was having when I was...completely out of it. I told you when we're on the other side. I guess we're on the other side, so I may as well tell you"
