"So I've been thinking."

Arianna removes her eyes from the road to glance at her best friend. "Jesus help us."

"Fuck you, okay." Kaydence laughs, tapping the other girl on her thigh. "It's not bad.....yet."

"Yet?"

Kay takes a deep breath, "I think I want to contact my family." Arianna, finally reaching a stoplight, turns to look at her friend. "My mother's side."

"Oh," Aria replies blankly, silently thanking God that she wasn't referring to her father's side. "That's great Kay."

"I guess," she frowns. "I don't know. I mean, I really want to talk to them. I'm still a little hesitant though. It's just that seeing you and Maya interact with Raymond and Cat-"

"Got you feeling some type of way?" Arianna interrupts softly. Kay nods. "I can understand. I've been meaning to ask you how you've been handling all of this. It must be difficult."

"Sometimes," Kay shrugs. "But, I'm happy for you and Maya. You guys have been through hell. It's about time something goes right for you."

"Bitch stop acting like you don't deserve happiness too." Arianna smacks her lips.

"I think I'm slowly finding it though," Kay murmurs, hands dropping to her stomach. To be three, almost four months along, her stomach is still as flat as can be. Only thing she really has is that pregnancy glow and a larger chest.

"You find out the sex of the baby on your next checkup, right?" Arianna asks with a smile on her face, but sadness deep inside. As happy as she is for her friend, she can't help but feel a little jealousy. She knows she'll never again have the privilege of carrying a baby.

"Yeah," Kay answers, immediately knowing where she's going. "But, my doctor is always so damn booked that the only day and time I could get doesn't work for you or Maya's schedule."

"Of course," Arianna groans. She, nor Maya, had been able to attend any of Kaydence appointments. Rico and X had been taking turns attending the previous ones. The girls really wanted to be that support for their best friend though. "I'm really sorry girl. Maybe I can try and see if I can switch shifts with someone-"

"No girl," Kaydence cuts her off. "I don't want you to do all that."

"But-"

"It's okay Arianna. Honestly." Kay tries to persuade. "I'll just ask Ayesha to come, okay? She's been giving me a lot of great tips anyway."

"That's cool," Arianna says plainly, her jealousy shifting to the fact at how much time Kay and Ayesha had been spending together. She knows seeing that Ayesha has been through all of this, but so has Maya and even Aria to some extent. Why not come to them? Then again, she also realizes that Kay doesn't want to bring up painful memories.

OoOoOoOo

"I don't know how the hell I haven't been in here before," Kaydence moans, admiring her reflection in the mirror. "Ya'll are giving me life right now."

Maya cracks a small smile; "Your stubborn ass refused to go back to another Dominican hair salon ever since the last one burned your scalp so bad, shit was red for a whole week."

Lorraine, the owner of the salon, and the one doing Kay's sew in, shakes her head. "No mami, we aim to please, not scorch."

"And please you do," Maya smirks, shifting in her seat.

Cat works conditioner through her daughters' hair. "You don't have a relaxer do you?"

"No," Arianna replies, scrolling through her camera roll for some picture. "Why?"
