(A/N: once things start getting more into depth with Dave, I will switch character point of views. Aka I'll use "I/me" so there will basically be a narrator. I believe I'll either start with that this chapter, or next chapter. As that's when Dave is gonna start getting more involved.¯\_(ツ)_/¯)

Karkat woke up to the sound of Kankri knocking, his voice muffled by the door. Karkat slowly peeled his eyes open, glancing around the room. Karkat pried himself from his tangle of sheets, shuffling to the door. Karkat was met with Kankri's face in the doorway, blurred from his bleary eyes , and squinting to avoid the harsh light from assaulting his eyes. "You must leave for school soon, you havent got any time to shower today. My apologies for not waking you up earlier." Kankri stated in an almost matter-of-factly tone. Karkat huffed in response as he rubbed the sleep from his eyes. "Are you at least going to give me a ride?" Karkat muttered. "Sure, I have some errands to run so it works out for me in the end. Be ready in 25 minutes, please." Kankri agreed.

With that, Karkat closed his door, staring at the pile of clothes that have been abandoned in the corner of his room. Hes lazy, what can he say. He sorted through the 'maybe dirty maybe clean, who honestly knows,' pile before he decided on a decent smelling sweater, along with pants. Karkat is clearly the epitome of having one's shit together.

Karkat arrived at the school, he was still in the car, looking dramatically out the window as if to say "I'm the sad protagonist, with a tragic backstory in a romantic movie." Karkat slid out of the car, his backpack hanging off one shoulder. He glanced longingly back to the car as Kankri drove away. Karkat sighed, and trudged towards the main entrance of the school.
Lame.
School, is lame.
--------------------------
Yesterday had been a 'B day,' meaning they only had main classes, where now, they had their electives. Karkat was left wondering whether Dave shared any electives with him. He wasn't sure, they were at a state where they both thought of each other as an enigma.

Karkat's electives left him with astronomy, and basic visual arts. He didn't actually sign up for astronomy, but hr wasn't exactly complaining, he thought the stars were pretty cool. You know, and other space junk that he had no fucking clue about. He had picked up an extra English class, just because English was easy, which left him with 2 electives.

By the time 3rd period rolled around, Karkat was already done with the day. He was tired from the second he opened his eyes that morning. Astronomy would probably be in a dark room, hopefully he'd be able to catch some shut eye in there. He could feel pressure behind his eyes, forming a headache. What an amazing way to start your 2nd day at a new school. Irritable, tired, with a side of headache. A special and rare delicacy, that must be handled with care.

Karkat made his way into room 110 in the 50's hall. The name tag above the door read "Mr. Benjamin" Karkat couldn't help but wonder if this was a teacher that preferred their first name to be used. Karkat stayed in the doorway for a moment, peering into the classroom. There was thick black construction paper covering the windows, there were tapestries hanging around the room, some with nebulae and other intricate galaxies painted onto them, some of them with planets, the order of our galaxy, and one in the back of the room with the Pillars of Creation. Karkat noted that the Pillars of Creation tapestry was definitely his favorite. Karkat broke out of his trance, and approached the desk where a considerably young teacher sat. "Excuse me, are there assigned seats in this classroom." Mr. Benjamin flashed him a small smile. "That depends, if you sit near friends will you still pay attention to the wonders of space that I'm going to be teaching" Mr. Benjamin piped back cheerily, light sarcasm in his tone. "No, there aren't assigned seats." Karkat nodded as a response, turning his attention back to the desks that sat in rows behind him. Students were already filling them up, however the back row seats were still empty.
Karkat sauntered off, towards one in the back corner on the left. He didnt want to get stuck in the middle seats, where there was a projector sitting in front. That'd make it difficult to see to board, hes not gonna be sleeping everyday after all.

Karkat waited silently for the bell to ring, he continued to admire the room when he heard a soft thud in the desk beside him. Karkat averted his eyes, and was met with none other then, yep, you guessed it Dave, in the desk beside him.

Dave smirked at Karkat, "I didn't take you much for an astronomy guy." Dave marveled. "I didn't take you for someone who actually showed up to classes." Karkat quipped back. "Touché. I only go to classes I want to. Astronomy is one of those." Karkat stared at Dave, puzzled, but didnt say anything more. Karkat wondered why Dave had such an interest in astronomy.

"I didn't actually sign up for this class." Karkat added after a couple of beats of silence.
"This class is sicker than a baby with chicken pox, dude. It's my favorite class actually."
Karkat opened his mouth to reply, when he was cut off by the bell.

Mr. Benjamin smiled, and clapped his hands together. "I know I swore I wasn't going to do another partner assignment, but here we are. What can I say? Theyre easier to grade. Anyways, choose your partners and take a seat next to them, then I will explain the assignment."

Karkat stared at the front of the room, he wasnt sure what he was expecting. There was something deep within him, hoping that Dave would ask him to be his partner. No matter how many times he would deny it out loud, he didnt really have anyone else, so Dave was basically his friend.
Dave tapped on Karkat's shoulder.

"Partners?" It was a simple word, and could have a simple reply, but not for Karkat Vantas, nope. Because hes a cheeky little shit. "Assignment" Karkat replied in somewhat of a daze. What? Karkat repeatedly smacked himself in the face, in his mind of course.
Dave sputtered, laughing the slightest bit.

"That was not an answer." Dave hummed in response. "I uh, yeah partners sure yes. Of course" Karkat rambled, beating himself up. What was he fucking doing this is so awkward, oh my god. This is it, this is where I die, Karkat thought. Mr. Benjamin spoke from the front of the room, once again. "I assume you guys have your partners, now for the assignment. You will make a diagram of the stars, however you wish to do that. Paper, physical, whatever. I want you to include at least one constellation, not including you and your partner's star sign. I know this sucks, but you won't be able to work on these during class. You have to arrange something outside of school."
Karkat glanced at Dave, his face felt like it was draining. He wasnt ready to take this "friendship" outside of school yet, even if it was just a project. Karkat's mouth betrayed him.
"Wanna come to my house tonight? Kankri is coming to pick me up after school so" Karkat murmured.

Why does he do this. Why why why why why why why Jesus. Fucking. Christ.

Before Karkat could take it back, Dave was agreeing to come over.

Karkat fucked up, and he knows it. He doesn't need friends, and surely this will bring him into a friendship. Thanks, Mr. Benjamin.
