Axel

"Dodge!"

I move over before a massive paw strikes at me.

"Good! Now strike before I pull back!"

Thump.

....

"Axel...", Forrest gave me a blank look.

"...what?", I mumble, my paw still on the side of his jaw.

"What was that...?"

....

"My...strike?", I look to the side, embarrassed.

We were in our wolf forms, back at the boulder. We were doing my fighting training and was supposed to be already on my last lesson, healing, but due to my...lack of skill...I had to train one training at a time.

Forrest sighs defeatedly and crashes down on me as if laying.

"G-Get off!!"

"Mm-mm"

"Forrest, you're heavy!!", I whine and struggled beneath his weight.

I continue hopelessly until I realized he was looking at me.

"What?", I asked annoyed.

He remained silent as if observing me and thinking of a response.

"WhaaaAAAT?", he was really getting under my nerves.

He sighed in defeat again and got off of me, "At least you're improving, slow but improving,", he said mostly to himself and I couldn't help but feel like a disappointment, "Again."

I got up and got into a fighting stance. I don't want to disappoint him.

"Spread out your fore legs more."

I felt myself earn more balance as I did so. I can handle everyone else's disappointment.

"Head lower."

I lowered my head. But I guess it's cause he's my mate that even the thought of disappointing him hurts.

"Too low. Up more. Right there. No, down...down...dow-STAY!! There. Good!"

I froze in that spot, wanting to keep my perfect stance.

"Relax a bit."

I took a deep breath, hence relaxing myself.

"Now, I'll repeatedly lunge at you and I want you to evade me. Don't run away or attack, just avoid being tackled."

"Got it."

"Okay...", he took a deep breath, looking even more nervous than I was.

Without warning he lunged at me and I jumped to my right as he continued forward.

"Good!"

We repeated this around a dozen times until I slammed into the boulder, not noticing it was there, and the pain forced me to shift back into human form.

Forrest immediately turned into his human form and ran to me, examining for injuries.

"Heheh, my bad. The boulder 's kinda hard to spot, y'know?"

We both looked at the massive boulder that was undoubtedly 3 times larger than an Alpha in wolf form, which on all fours is at least 5 feet tall.

I gave a nervous chuckle.

Geez, I messed up...he's disappointed isn't he?

He looked back at me. I was gonna apologize but before I could, Forrest lifted up my chin and kissed me lovingly. It only lasted for a few seconds, but when he pulled back I couldn't help but let out a small whine.

Why'd he kiss me anyway? Is he trying to distract me from my suckiness? Or just reminding himself I'm his mate so he doesn't lash out on me? The thought hurt, and I subconsciously pushed him away slowly. I immediately hear his heart beat quicken and his panic rise. I felt bad and decided to confront him instead of pushing him away further.

"You don't have to do that to comfort me, I'm already used to the disappointment.", I mumble.

I saw his eyes widen, softened, then look at me with a smile.

"Didn't I just tell you you were improving?"

My heart fluttered and my eyes widened at him with adoration. He's not gonna....

"You won't...give up on me...?", my voice was laced with such hope and surprise.

"I would never."

We stood there, looking at each other's eyes. Then he smiled as if he meant those words and I couldn't help but smile back 100 times happier than before.

He then stood up and held out his hand for me. I took it with a grin and we took a little break before we had to report to the alpha. The moon already climbing it's way up the sky.

We discussed what I improved on and definitely struggled on most. It was comforting when he explained this while with others it was that same old "I believe you have that hidden potential" bullshit. It even made me laugh, because it was so weird. He stopped mid-sentence and I just poured out my thoughts since he asked. It felt really great though, doing this. It wasn't like he was just listening there to be polite, or because he wanted a slice of the drama or anything. He was just there, listening, understanding, just being there with no judgement.

Afterwards, we got up ready to go. Before we even took a step, he hugged me and praised me right at my ear and I tingled with excitement and hugged him back happily.

I'm so happy I found him.
