Chapter 14 - Cooling Off

"Keane" Arii said,

"Don't...give me 5 minutes, I don't want to snap at you" I walked, well half limped off, I just knew that someone was going to follow me, I didn't even need to guess who that someone would be, he came and sat next to me on the kerb. He didn't say anything, but him just being there already began to calm my nerves. After 5 minutes he said,

"I'm sorry"

"I'm sorry too. My heads all over the place and I'm lashing out for no reason...I...I..."

"You don't have to explain to me. Like I always tell you, I've got you", he stood up and gave me his hand, I took it and he pulled me up,

"Keane" Noah said once we'd reached them again,

"Stop" I said, "Don't worry"

"Thank you" Arii then said, she took my hand, and I squeezed it,

"No worries baby sis"

Before we headed over to Chanel's we went back to Talina's, I had a shot of morphine and then we left.

I could tell that it was going to be a long afternoon.

Tayte's POV

I knew I had to keep an eye on Keane more than usual. He was struggling and at some point it was going to get very ugly.

"I'm so glad you came, come on in. Have you got swim stuff? Don't worry if you haven't. I have stuff for you. I have Markus on barbecue duty" We smiled, looked at each other and then followed her in, she led us to an open plan pool area, Keane, who'd refused to take his crutches made himself comfortable on a sun lounger, Noah plonked himself down next to him and Arii came and sat on my lap,

"We're all brother and sister remember, so no incestuous activities please" Keane said, I laughed. I actually had totally forgot,

"We just have a close brother and sister bond" Arii said,

"Let's just not slip with up the names" Angelo said,

"I've got a bunch of new swim stuff if you wanted to go in the pool"

"Thank you" Keane said,

"It's no bother Joey" She said sitting down at the bottom of his lounger, "Does it hurt?"

"The pain comes and goes" he answered,

"If there's anything I can do"

"I'm good thanks," she smiled,

"Can I just say what a gorgeous family you are. How old are you all? If you don't mind me asking," I never knew we all looked so alike!

"I'm 28, Joey's 23, Luka's 22, Hartley's 20 and Keevy's 17"

"Wow, I bet your parents are proud," no one answered, "Sorry, is that a touchy subject?"

"No, we just haven't seen them in a while, we're travelling for 6 months around the world. We've already done North and South America, Asia and Europe" Angelo said,

"How long have you been travelling so far?"

"4 and a half months, we plan to stay here for a week and then head over to Cape Town"

"I wish I could do that"

"Do you have any siblings?" I asked,

"An older sister whose 36, I'm 21 so yes a 15 year age gap. I was kind of a mistake, but don't get me wrong I'm not treated like I was, but I know my place"

"Sorry to hear that. How about we forget about everything today and just have some fun" I suggested,

"Sounds like a good idea Luka"

So that's what we did. We changed into the brand new designer swimwear and took to the pool, minus Keane (for a couple of hours at least). Chanel was in and out of the pool chatting away to Keane. It was so blatantly obvious that she fancied him. We managed to get Keane in the pool eventually, much to his dismay and protests.

However late afternoon Keane was struggling and it was evident to see. He'd crashed on a lounger and kept running his hands through his hair and shutting his eyes, Angelo and I exchanged glances as Noah headed over,

"We're heading out soon okay," Keane nodded, "Do you need anything?"

"Apart from to leave...no"

"Chanel it's been great but we're going to have to head off now. We're having dinner with a few friends" I said, she looked disappointed and I kind of felt sorry for her,

"My parents are away for a month so if you wanted to come over again then you know I won't say no"

"I'm sure we can pop in before we leave" her eyes lit up then,

"I'd like that...and is um, is Joey okay?"

"He'll be fine," I just wished I believed what I was saying.

As we headed back to Talina's not one of us noticed the two men in an unmarked car sat watching us.

Unknown POV

"Why don't we just kill them here and now?"

"Because our orders are to keep them alive so we can torture information out of them"

"But we're letting them just walk away"

"Shut up, don't undermine me. I know what I'm doing and we know what we've been told, so we stick to the bloody plan"

"Well the plan is shit. This isn't what I signed up for, sitting on my arse as our targets swan around alive" he grabbed his gun off the dash and swung his door open,

"What the hell are you doing? Get back in the fucking car and that is an order"

"Make me"

Keane's POV

We were just approaching the road that Talina's house was on when something made me turn around and that something was a bad feeling. I saw what I knew was an agent stood there pointing his gun at me, his finger dancing dangerously over the trigger,

"GET DOWN" I shouted, everyone crouched to the floor literally seconds before bullets flew over our head, "Stay the hell down" I cautiously got up,

"Keane, don't fucking be a hero" Tayte hissed, I ignored him, shouting was then heard,

"I'm so sorry, but this is better for you. It'll all be over soon" He said staring at me, "It'll all be over soon"

BANG

"KEANE!"

...

...

...

I knew I hadn't been shot; I looked at the agent who'd just killed his partner. What the actual Fuck! Arms then wrapped around my waist, Arii and two hands on my shoulders; Tayte and Noah,

"I'll be seeing you around and next time, the bullet will be in you" He said, dragging his partner off and disappearing,

"Keane, what the hell were you thinking?" Noah snapped,

"He wasn't" Arii said,

"Enough let's just get inside. No arguing" Tayte said.

No arguing.

No arguing.

The arguing was only just about to begin.
