His Disaster
We both settled at one corner of the bonfire, the flames crackling in the chilly night air, casting an orange glow on everyone around us. Laughter and chatter filled the air, but I felt oddly detached from it all.
I wrapped my body tightly in a shawl, pulling it around my shoulders to protect myself from the cold that seemed to seep into my bones. The warmth from the fire was comforting, but it couldn't shake the unease I felt from earlier. Manika, on the other hand, was cocooned in a whole blanket, her body completely swathed in it.
She looked cozy, completely at ease, while I sat there, distracted and trying to make sense of everything.
As the fire danced in front of us, casting long shadows, I couldn't help but wonder if something had changed tonight, if the strange feeling I had, the one that had been gnawing at me since my walk in the woods, was trying to tell me something.
