✨Author's POV
Scene: Raj’s Room – Next Morning
Raj, Dhruv, and Mayur sat together, quietly waiting for updates. The room was unusually silent until Mayur finally spoke.
Mayur:
“Guys, I got a call from Nayan this morning. She said Gunjan showed some movements last night.”
At that, Raj’s head snapped up—his eyes instantly lit up like a man clinging to hope.
Mayur (teasing):
“Don’t look at me like that, Raj. I might just fall for you.”
Dhruv laughed hard while Raj groaned, annoyed. But beneath the jokes, his heart was racing.
Mayur (turning serious):
“Okay, listen. I’m heading to the hospital now. I’ll keep updating you. If I get the chance, I’ll FaceTime you both.”
Raj & Dhruv:
“Nodding like schoolkids—Yes, boss.”
As Mayur left, Raj and Dhruv sat at the desk, glued to the phone screen like it was a sacred artifact.
In that silence, sleep crept in, and both dozed off unintentionally.
---
One hour later – Phone rings loudly
They jolted awake. It was Mayur.
Mayur (excitedly):
“She’s conscious! Doctor said all vitals are stable. If things stay good, she’ll be discharged by tomorrow!”
Raj burst into tears — but this time, they were of relief.
He didn’t even try to hide them.
---
Scene: Verma House, Evening
Raj sat at his window.
Raj (softly):
“I’ll make everything right once you’re back, Gunjan. That’s a promise.”
The phone buzzed again — Mayur.
Mayur:
“Tests are clear, but doctors said she’s been under a lot of emotional stress. They called it psychological trauma...”
That hit Raj like a punch to the gut.
His lips trembled.
His fists clenched.
Dhruv, standing beside him, gently placed a hand on his shoulder.
---
Next Morning – Verma House
Mrs. Verma was arranging flowers and lighting diyas, while Mr. Verma packed a food basket.
Mayur and Raj walked down the stairs.
Mrs. Verma:
“Where’s Dhruv?”
Raj:
“He went out for some work. He’ll be back by afternoon. But… what’s all this prep?”
Mrs. Verma (smiling):
“My girl is coming back today—from a journey she never deserved. I want her return to feel special.”
Mayur (whispers to Raj):
“Your mother-in-law is quite the sweetheart, huh?”
Raj glares but blushes.
They both help her set everything beautifully.
In her room, Raj noticed something on her desk.
A photograph.
The one from the pooja night.
The one with him and Gunjan.
Pinned carefully, like it mattered.
His eyes lingered.
---
Mid-Afternoon – Sinha House
A car honked. Everyone rushed out.
Gunjan stepped out — frail, slow, exhausted.
The moment Raj saw her, his eyes welled up.
Their eyes met — hers tired, his guilty.
She looked away.
Everyone helped her to her room.
Downstairs, the house buzzed with activity — aunties cooking, uncles chatting. It almost felt normal again… almost.
Suddenly, Mrs. Sinha’s voice called from the kitchen.
Mrs. Sinha:
“Raj beta, come here for a minute.”
Raj walked in, surprised.
She handed him a tray with warm soup.
Mrs. Sinha:
“Can you please give this to Gunjan?”
Raj’s heartbeat quickened.
But he nodded silently.
---
Scene: Gunjan’s Room
He knocked gently.
Raj:
“May I…?”
Gunjan (recognizing his voice):
“Hm. Come in.”
He walked in, placed the tray on the table, and saw her trying to sit up.
Without thinking, he stepped forward — one hand on her back, the other gently holding hers.
His grip… promised something unspoken.
As he helped her, a single tear slipped from his eye… landing on her wrist.
Gunjan:
“Wait—are you crying?”
Raj (voice trembling):
“I’m sorry. So, so sorry. Please… if you can, forgive me.”
She gently pulled her hand away.
Gunjan:
“Wipe your tears, Raj.
I don’t want to talk about this right now.”
He nodded, swallowing his guilt.
“Have the soup, okay? It’ll help.”
He turned to leave when she suddenly said—
Gunjan:
“I can’t have it on my own.”
He paused, turned, and walked back.
Sitting beside her, he carefully fed her each spoon.
After a few minutes…
Gunjan (gently):
“Have you eaten anything?”
Raj looked at her, stunned.
Gunjan:
“Don’t look at me like that—just answer.”
Raj (quietly):
“No.”
She took the spoon, filled it, and held it out.
Gunjan:
“Open your mouth.”
He obeyed. She smiled faintly.
Gunjan (playfully):
“Now that I’ve fed you, you’re not going anywhere.
Only then... I might forgive you.”
Raj laughed — tears mixed with joy.
He leaned forward and hugged her tight.
And this time, she hugged him back.
Their first real moment of peace.
And somehow, despite everything,
they looked perfect—together.
