Twenty three🎨

It's end of day in Finn's office and his staff members are packing up for the evening. I however, have nowhere to go. Still sitting in reception, I'm frantically dialling motels and boarding houses to find a room. Considering the language barrier I'm not making much progress.

"Are you still here Yok ?" "I guess so Finn. Are you going to invite me to your home?" "I'm not. I told you to sort yourself out. What you do now is not my problem." "That's really harsh. I wasn't this nasty to you. "

"Weren't you? When I worried for you where were you? When I waited to know if you were okay, where were you? When I sat with your mae not knowing what happened to you, where were you? You're right. You really weren't the nasty one. I was probably, for waiting for you, For hoping you'll love me back, for praying for your safety... All while you were at your ex's home... " He shook his head in disbelief.

"I'm not saying I wasn't wrong, I'm just saying I wasn't nasty ." "Goodnight Yok." He walked out of the building without saying another word.

I've gotten myself into a nasty predicament. I might end up sleeping on a park bench tonight. Plus I'm really hungry. "Sawadee ka Yok. Aren't you leaving?" "I'm trying phi. I can't find a room anywhere. " "Listen my place isn't much. It's only me and my son. You can sleep over with us this evening. I'll help you make an alternative plan in the morning. " "That would be awesome Phi Mook. I can't thank you enough." "We countryman must stick together ya!
Let me put the vacume cleaner away and we can head out. Security will be here any minute to lock up."

Phi Mook and her son was indeed very gracious hosts. They not only fed me, but her son gave up his bed for me. Would you believe the boy is an aspiring artist?. We chatted for quite a while on art and art classes. At least I could give him some good advice.

By morning I was back at Finn's office. Phi Mook introduced me to her immediate superior and the man was in quite a state. Apparently one of his workers had resigned with immediate effect. He was short-staffed and he could lose his contract. As luck would have it, it was for Finn's building and I had some free time. The cash would certainly come in handy. He let me use one of his spare uniforms and I was ready for a day's work.

Phi Mook showed me around the building and the work was easy. I could observe Finn without being seen. He truly was impressive. His photos exquisite and each seemed to whisper at secrets hidden within. I could see why he was such a popular photographer and why he was sought after everywhere.

By morning tea break I sat with Mook in the canteen, enjoying my first cuppa for the day. Finn walked in briefly, leaving instructions with Mook for his upcoming meeting. When he saw me he immediately pulled me aside. "What the hell Yok?" I didn't answer at first, thinking it's rather obvious isn't it?  He was angry though and I didn't want to make the situation any worse.

"Look Finn, I need the money and they needed help. Besides no one cared what happened to me except Phi Mook. " "Yok why don't you just go home?" "Because I can't lose you. I love you too much to give up. I want to build a family with you. Finn please give me a chance...." When he didn't say anything I grabbed the opportunity to hug him tightly. It lasted all of two seconds before I got shoved back, crashing into the cupboard. "Damnit Yok. I hate you and now I'm worrying about you. Just let me move on .... " For a moment we just stared at each other until I finally pulled him closer and he allowed me to kiss him..... sincerely.

I hadn't been this close to Finn in almost three weeks. To say I missed him would be the understatement of the century. For a fleeting moment we both gave in to our emotions and clung to each other, not wanting to let go.... Until sanity prevailed and he pushed me away again. Face hot and flushed, he said nothing and stomped off in the direction of his office.

"Well well well....," said Mook behind me. "I guess you got under his skin. " By lunchtime I was summoned to Finn's office. I wasn't meeting Finn though, it was Steve. "Listen buddy, Finn says you're making him uncomfortable. He asked me to talk to you. If you need money I can give it to you. I can even buy you a ticket home. Just say the word man. "

Somehow the idea of Steve talking to me was even more upsetting than Finn giving me the cold shoulder. "Steve, please tell Finn if he needs to speak to me, he can do so directly. If you'll excuse me, I have work to do. " As I left the office I came face to face with Finn. "What are you doing in my office Yok?"
"Why don't you ask Steve."

A little after lunchtime my phone rang again. Unfortunately the call couldn't connect, but I know it was White trying to reach me. We had agreed upon a code should they urgently need to contact me. This seemed urgent. I immediately walked in to Finn's office, not really caring whether I was disrupting anything. Steve tried to prevent me from entering. "Finn I need your help to make a call. Something's wrong at home. Mae is alone..." This time Finn completely ignored Steve's complaints. He made everyone leave the office and helped me call home. 

I dialled Sammy's number. The call took less than five minutes. "Mae's in trouble..." Finn's response was immediate, "What happened?" "Mae hasn't answered her phone since yesterday. She's not with any of her friends and Sammy was supposed to pick her up today. She wasn't there. They tried tracking her cell but it's been turned off. " "Mae would never turn her phone off. Go find her Yok "

"Finn...." "I'm going to book your ticket. I'm coming with you. We can talk about the other stuff later. Find Mae first." "I'm worried..." "I know Yok. I know." The first genuine hug since I landed in this place.

Twenty minutes later I was heading to the airport. Unfortunately Finn could only get a booking for one on an emergency flight. "Yok call me as soon as you land. " "I will. Please thank Phi Mook for me, for everything. Finn, I wanted you to come back with me..." "I'll fly out on the next available flight. Be careful Yok. You make sure Mae is safe okay. " "Okay." "Yok, ..... Be careful please. I love you..." "
You promise you are coming to me later?" "I am.... Fly safe " One last hug.... And I had to leave Finn behind.
