Eighteen 🎨

Two of the longest days of my life... And also the shortest.

Waiting to hear from Black was excruciatingly frustrating. I was rearing to go... but couldn't go anywhere or do anything.... Waiting has never been easy for me. Was Danai the one hiding at that location? Was it someone else? If so, then who? If it was Danai, then why?

Finn, on the other hand, was being the gracious host.... In my house. He cooked, Mae and him chilled over lakorns, he even assisted with clients coming in for consultation. He was so sweet, helpful and kind, it was almost suspicious.

After a day of him pre-emting my needs, I set him down for a convo. "You're being very sweet, you're so lovely Finn, please stop it. " He looked taken aback. "Why? Am I not being the perfect boyfriend?" "No, you're acting weird. What's going on? You might as well spill it."

Finn's body posture folded in half, much like a deflated balloon. "Fine. If you must know, I'm afraid. I swear I'm not the insecure type. I've never been, yet, with you, I'm constantly wondering how to please you. I'm scared.... " "If it's about Danai, I'll protect you, as much as I can. I wish you'd rather stay with Sammy but I'm glad you're here."

"That's what scares me. I can look after myself. I'm not incompetent. I can fight if I need to..." "Then why do you keep saying you're scared..." "I'm scared you'll send me away." "Why would I do that? Clearly I've tried and it hasn't worked. I know when to back off.. I let you stay didn't I?"

"You didn't let me stay. I refused to leave. What you had with Danai was special I know and if he comes back, you might have it again. I've tried to mentally and emotionally prepare for that. If it comes to that, I'll leave, I've been through a break up before. I'll survive somehow.

The thing is I can't help feeling like the cheap clingy ex girlfriend while I know I'm neither clingy nor cheap. I hate that I'm like this but... If he comes back, I want to be here ... fighting for my man... How much can I do that stuck in a different country?"

"Fight for your man huh?" "You're making fun of me aren't you Yok? Okay,call me clingy then.... Your Mae needs me. I'm going to sit with her." He's actually upset with me. Unbelievable. "Finn....." What to do with an upset insecure man? Kiss him until he drops I suppose. Thank you Bright Vachirawit for that piece of inspiration.

Finn froze in the middle of the doorway with his back turned to me. Walking up behind him I slip my arms around his waist. "Teng, I'm scared for your safety. If not for that I wouldn't send you away. What Danai and I had is definitely in the past. It's over, completely finished. Even if he comes back, after all that's happened, I don't think we could ever go back to the way it was."

I spin him around slowly. Kissing him gently on his forehead I say words which I hope will make him understand me. "When Dan and I were together, we never planned for a future together. Neither of us really wanted to. We were together and we went with the flow, staying together as long as we were both happy and comfortable. The fact that it lasted as long as it did was a blessing... But an end would've come at some point. Because of the accident we never reached that point, but we knew it was there.

With you it's different. I want a future. I want to make plans, I want to build something with you. When everything is sorted, I want to ask you ... To consider giving up the life you have abroad and starting one with me... With me and Mae. I don't know how else to say it to you Finn. You...."

I wasn't expecting him to kiss me just then, but he did, until we were both breathless in fact. "I want a future with you too." I guess Mae won't mind watching her lakorns by herself tonight. I intend on keeping Finn very busy.

A day later we finally got a call from Black. He sent us the footage. It was dark and grainy. We couldn't see much. There definitely was a person moving about, we just couldn't identify him. Most of the time he's face was covered plus he was wearing dark burly clothing and with the footage already being so degraded, it was hard to tell.

We did manage to identify a vehicle used by the unsub, which we believed to be Danai. We tracked its route and discovered a new location. This one larger, more opulent and with much more activity. Something was definitely being planned here. We could identify five men coming and going from the property. Still the one we thought to be Danai was shrouded in mystery.

The other four was identified as a notorious safe cracker, a black hat hacker, a security expert and a munitions guy. The plan would seem to involve a safe, a computer, probably an alarm of sort and an explosion. What we needed was the location, it pointed to a robbery,but where, when and who?

The only way to know for sure, was to break into that compound and find out. Sean, White and myself made plans. Sammy and Finn researched the location, a way to get in, to get out and a diversion if needed. Three of us going against five, possibly armed men.... Those odds couldn't get any more favourable.

The ROL team had never believed in carrying weapons before. Our fight had been to free the world of the likes of Tawi and we were doing that by exposing the rot he tried to hide. This was of course a different matter. For this, we were going to have to be prepared..... Very prepared...

Danai or not, this was no small fry operation, for this we needed backup. Sammy called in some favours with law enforcement agencies. At least we got them to listen to our plan. Whatever mission this group was on, it was enough for a small task force to be mobilised.

Small, but not insignificant. At least we didn't have to try going in with only three people.

Date and time finally set, location confirmed, operation cleared and we were ready for action ........
