Sixteen 🎨

It's been a few days since I spoke to Finn. He moved whatever of his things were at my place, said his goodbyes and left.

He's been staying with Sammy over the last two days. Tonight is his farewell with workmates and tomorrow... He flies out of my life. I promised I wouldn't see him off, but I have to see him. Even if it's just once more. Thanks to Sammy I know which bar they're meeting at. Medusa has turned out to be a good friend. Someday I'll tell Finn how right he was about her.

Sitting in the darkest corner of the bar. I see Finn and his friends arriving, while remaining unnoticed. I watch them enjoying themselves, drinking laughing, partying... I remember the night I got to know Finn. The night I ran into him at the bar. Back then we flirted, now? I can't believe how deeply I've fallen for him.

It's true I thought Danai was the person I would be with forever, but meeting Finn I realised the difference between being in love and loving someone so much that wanting a forever with them is too short. Finn needs more than words, but all I have are words. If Danai were in front of me I'd tell him that Finn was the one.... But I don't know where Dan is ....

I want Finn to stay with me, but the cost of him being hurt by Danai is too great. I want to hold on to him but I have to let him go. Silently I wish him a beautiful life. I raise a toast to his health and happiness and I bid him farewell, all from a distance. From my corner I prepare to sneak out as quietly as I came in.

I get up from my seat, retrieve my jacket and suddenly a body plops down on the chair in front of me. Finn. "I thought you wouldn't see me off. Why are you here?" There's nothing I can say that would explain my presence. I remain silent. "Cat got your tongue big man?" .........,....... "Dance with me Yok."

He takes me by the hand and leads me to the floor. The music is slow, the floor crowded and the lighting dim. Finn pulls me closer and wraps his arms around me. His face buried in my neck,"Yok, I'll stay if you want me too." My shock is big enough that I grab him by the shoulders and hold him in front of me, to clearly see his face, "what did you say?" He repeats his words slowly.

"The last few days without you.... Has been hard. It doesn't matter to me anymore whether you love only me or whether the shadow of Danai will always be hanging over us. Should Danai come back and you choose to be with him, I'll deal with it when the time comes..... If later you love Dan more, I'll leave then .. I don't want to lose you, being away from you hurts too much."

He pulls me closer again, placing butterfly kisses all along my jawline. I hug him tightly for a few minutes, knowing what I need to do. One last kiss before I say the words to him I never thought I would ever utter. "Finn, maybe it's better if you go ..." It takes a few minutes to gather my words into a coherent sentence.

I want to tell him that it's dangerous, that Danai is capable of anything, that if he got beaten up once, next time might be worse, that holding on to him could very well hurt him more, that I feared for his safety, worried that I couldn't protect him ......... But before I utter a word he turns and walks away from me.

A part of me wants to run after him and stop him, but I remain frozen in the same spot. Eventually I turn away and walk out. Once outside I realise it's started to rain. The cold splashes on my face drives home the fact that I left Finn inside. I stand as if glued to that spot. I force my legs to walk away
But involuntarily they turn back, back towards Finn. It takes all my willpower to take one step ... Two..... Three..... Away from the bar.

As soon as I reach my car I phone Sean and White. "I want to end this now. Let's meet. We must find Danai and end it. End it before I lose Finn for good.

When I last spoke to Sammy she mentioned an interesting fact about the watch. Apparently when the model was first introduced it's selling point was that it could carry coded messages. I bought the watch because I thought it would suit Danai. It was an anniversary gift. I never had it inscribed with any code or secret message, just the usual, "To my Dano. Love you forever. Y." The watch Sammy found, a similar model has a message inside and she had deciphered it.

That message was fairly simple, not much of a code. Just a wife saying she loves her husband. This might be the reason Danai so desperately wanted the watch back, he may have inscribed it with something more important. A code or message regarding Tawi or something, whatever it was, he went through great lengths to get it.

Sammy found another interesting fact regarding the watch. It was popular because of its love location program. Three heads had turned in unison to Sammy, ready to joke but also very curious. " Love locate what?" I have never heard of such a thing, but I'm not really clued up on the newest technology, so I must have missed the announcement. Both Sean and White assumed she was pulling our legs.

"What nonsense is that, Sean exclaimed. Sammy eventually managed to get a word in between the teasing. "Love location indeed," I mutter surprised. Sammy explains that it's some kind of GPS system. The watch is usually sold as a set and one can pinpoint the location of the other. Finding your love so to speak.

Now they all turn to me. "Well? Is it or is it not a set?, Sammy asks impatiently. I try to remember when I bought the watch, if it had a partner. I couldn't remember. Mae, who had been following most of the conversation, patted me on the back eagerly. She reminds me that I had indeed bought the set. It was meant as couples watches, but just before I gifted it, Danai said he doesn't like couple things. I ended up leaving the other watch in my drawer and forgetting about it completely.

The reason Mae knows about it is because a couple years back she lost her watch . She assumed I wouldn't mind of she borrowed the one from my drawer. She just forgot to mention it in the hullabaloo of me getting shot back then. I'm almost afraid to ask Mae what has become of the watch, which is now possibly our only lead to finding Danai.

"Where's it now," Sammy blurts out before any of us could phrase the request respectfully. Mae holds out her right arm and pulls up her sleeve. "Here," she says. We're all stunned into silence, just staring at the watch.

How is it activated we're all wondering. Sammy says it has something to do with the face of the watch and to find the red dot. We're all staring at her dumbfounded. Wondering how is it possible she cannot feel the daggers we're all sending her way. Talk about jumping to obvious conclusions.

We notice between the buttons for setting the time and the alarm is another smaller button labelled 'A'. We glance at each other wondering if it could really be that obvious . "Someone press it already," utters White impatiently. I press it eventually and simultaneously we hold our breath.

On the face of the watch at the bottom, digital numbers appear where before had only been a dark rectangle. The numbers roll, much like a lotto machine. It finally stops on a set of numbers. Could this be it? Could this be the coordinates for it's sister watch? Could this be Danai's location?

Only one way to find out. Myself Sean and White set off in search of this location. Sammy heads to her office where she can monitor our progress in real-time.

And so the adventure begins.....
