You found her after class.
She was standing by the window in the main tower hallway, staring out at the cherry trees blooming across the quad.
"Can we talk?"
Midnight turned slowly. Her eyes were sharp, but not unkind. "I was wondering when you'd come."
You stood in silence for a second. Then: "You know."
"I suspected." She crossed her arms. "But I wanted to hear it from you."
You nodded. "It's real. It's not a game. He didn't manipulate me."
"I believe you."
That shocked you.
"What you're doing is reckless," she added. "But I know him. And I know you. You're not stupid. Just in love."
You looked away. "We didn't mean to fall."
"No one ever does."
She sighed.
"You need to know what's coming. Someone will file a report. It might not be me. But it'll happen. And the school will act."
You bit your lip. "Then we'll take it. Together."
Midnight's gaze softened.
"I hope it's worth it."
"It is," you said.
Then walked away—before she could see your tears.
