Describe a time where you, or someone else had to be brave.

The school hallways bustled with a never-ending cacophony of life, each student rushing to and fro like busy bees, each lost in their own purpose.

I stood there, next to my locker, clutching a note in my clammy hands.

It was for Emily.

Emily had been my best friend since primary school. We came together from our shared love of photography. But recently, something weird would happen whenever she was around. I would catch my eyes wandering to her in the middle of the class sometimes. I would catch myself laughing more when she was around. This feeling was so...new, yet so scary.

So, after months of contemplating and being scared of the consequences, I decided to write a letter to tell her my true feelings. I took a deep breath and slipped the note that I had rewritten a little over a thousand times into her locker, before scurrying away to my next class.

Time crawled along like an antique tortoise with no sense of urgency. All I knew was that I couldn't focus in my classes, I couldn't eat lunch, and I definitely couldn't talk to her without my heart racing with worry that she would already know of the letter.

As the bell signaled the end of school, I hurried to the school garden where Emily and I would meet to walk back home together, like always. I saw her sleek figure in the garden, looking out into the amber sunset. Gusts of wind toyed with her long ebony hair, making it flow like a pristine river. I exhaled sharply and advanced towards her.

"Hey, Emily," I started, my hands unknowingly clutching the straps of my backpack as i plastered a smile on my face.

"It's not funny, Florian." She cut me off coldly, not even bothering to look into my eyes.

I blinked. What's not funny?

She pushed the letter back into my palms, her eyes distant and unreadable.

"Go play your stupid pranks on someone else."

"Wait, no, it's not a prank! Emily, I like you."

I looked up into her eyes desperately, hearing my voice come out louder than I had intended it to be. As her breathtaking hazel eyes met mine, I felt my heart flutter, but I couldn't look away. Not this time.

"In that case... I like you too, Florian." She muttered, her words only for me to hear. Before I could process her words, I felt her tender lips meet mine in a shy, quick kiss.

My face heated up immediately, a smile crawling across my features as I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding in. I saw her smile back, her soft, melodic laughter filling the air as she saw the effects of her actions.

Maybe the bravery was worth it.
