Write a story with the title "Always"
It was another day in the city. A zephyr ruffled the hazel leaves of a maple tree, causing it to carpet the stony ground below with its coffee-colored leaves. The city was bustling in cacophony, citizens rushing to and fro like busy bees.
And yet, there we were, huddled like pathetic puppies at the cold pillar of a weathered bridge. We had lost all we had in just a single night. I remember muttering to my sister, as the house went down-- Regardless of anything that happens, I'd love her, always.
The memory of the greedy flames licking at our home, the chilling screams of Mom who I had failed to save reverberated in my mind hauntingly. I knew that my parents were just a grain, hastily removed from the sands of time, and it took a large amount of effort to not heave my scarred body over the weathered walls into the wan waters below. Only one thing stopped me, and that was my little sister.
From the day she was born, I vowed to always love her, to always protect her. I couldn't just leave her when she needed me most. So, I swallowed my pride, leaving a plastic cup on the floor in front of us, in hopes of obtaining some money through donations.
Hours passed, and no one spared us a second glance. "Elaine, I'm hungry,' my sister whined, but what could I do? The city seemed cold and indifferent towards out situation. When I was on the verge of sealing to fill our tummies a warm shadow cast over us. It was a woman in her 70s, with white silver hair framing her face perfectly. She smiles, her face sculpted by time itself, as she handed us each a golden loaf of bread which seemed to glow under the afternoon sun. As i munched on the warm bread, it revitalized my body. It gave me hope. And so, hand in hand, my sister and I got up from the bleak bridge and scavenged the city in search of anything that could help us.
Fortunately, Lady Luck was upon us as we stumbled upon a tarnished harmonica. We decided to hone our skills in music to earn a living.
We practised day and nice, living off scraps of food in hopes of improving. With my sister's jubilant voice and my heart-wrenching melodies, things started to go uphill, slowly but surely. We performed enthusiastically each time, the love for my sister overwhelming the fear of potentially messing up in front of a crowd.
Time flew like an arrow, and we were older now, no longer the pathetic children who covered at the bridge's pillars. My sister and I had blossomed into inspiring singers, touring the world with a band of our very own. It wasn't easy, but despite the hardships, we stuck together.
I could hear the crowd cheering from behind the stage. Hand in hand, we walked out, gazing over the sea of audience. I held my now-polished harmonica up to my mouth, and blew. The autumn leaves swirled as we performed in harmony, carrying the melody of our unbreakable bond. I glanced at my sister with a playful smile, and I saw her grin back at me, her eyes glinting with happiness.
"I'll love you, always."
