Farah called me in tears

Farah called me in tears. It was around ten thirty at night, but apparently, duty called at the most inopportune hours. I picked up the phone and rolled over on my stomach, trying to hold my eyes up.

"Hello?" I slurred. I hadn't checked to see who was calling, so I only figured it out from the soft whisper on the other end of the line.

"Wylan—" the person said. I then recognized Farah's voice.

"That is me." I sat myself up groggily. My eyes were burning and my legs gave an incessant protest as I dragged myself to my closet. I had no idea what to put on so I grabbed the essentials and slowly clothed myself.

"Can you come over?" I didn't even take a moment to think on it.

"Definitely," in the midst of dressing and making feeble attempts at balancing myself, I fell and hit my hip on my bed rail which accounted for limping that I was doing down the staircase.

I reached the front door and my dad was sitting on the couch watching some type of sports event as I wrapped my fingers around the doorknob. "What are you doing?" he asked as he raised himself from the couch and grabbed his keys.

"Going to help a friend," I answered with my keys in hand.

He shook his head. "Don't you need to help yourself to some sleep?" I looked down at the ground and he pushed my chin up. "Look up. Time goes by so fast that if you take your eye off the prize for a second, it'll leave you wondering how everyone passed you by. Tell Farah that you can talk for about twenty minutes, and you will see her at school later. If you want, I'll give you some cash to go to Oliver's with. You two can have coffee and talk it out after school. Whatever it is you girls do."

I frowned, "But I want to be there physically, Dad."

"Tell her to wrap herself in a blanket that is fresh out of the dryer, I promise she'll feel warm and fuzzy without you holding her. Go now, you can take this option for two hundred, or you can leave it, and wait for the steal."

I sighed and kissed my dad on the head as I walked back upstairs.

"Ty wouldn't have taken that much convincing," he stated as he chortled at himself.

"Yeah, all you would've had to do was offer to act out Sleeping Beauty with mom and she'd concede," I retorted as I reached the top.

Farah drove over and we sat in my room talking. "I like him, but my parents don't," she said as I patted her back. "They say that I shouldn't be worried about a boy right now, but I just want to have fun, Wy. It's nothing serious. You're supposed to be cute and stupid in high school, and we both want the same things, we have to."

"I've known that you liked Nate for a while now, and even if I do despise him as a person, I can't tell you who to like. You two have flirted for a while...maybe you just need the experience." He'd hated me, openly, but I was trying to be supportive.
