"Sister- you could call me sister... if you like" I said as I started to doubt myself
She was quiet for a moment before a smile broke out on her face
"Sister it is" she said as she gave my hand a squeeze and I felt reassured
"Anyway, I shall continue" she said morbidly as our smiles dropped "our family was killed with hate- almost like the attackers knew us and it was a score they needed to settle... I wasn't there. I was out at work in the nearest town- I managed to gain a job with one of the gentry families in their big homes. I had been working as a cleaner since I was 10" she said "it was one of the only ways to put food on the table."
I looked at her in confusion
"But the statements said your house was probably the course of our families demise- a robbery gone wrong" I said
"We lived in a big family home payed for and passed down for the past four generations, but after the Great Depression and everything to do with the war, though the shell of our families wealth lived on, it itself did not" she said "We got attacked not because of our status, but because of something else I do not know. The vampires that attacked... they were a coven- a coven who were in the throws of the ritual of hunting together. The way they attacked our family- it looked organised and as if they had done it before..." she trailed off for a moment as she relived the memory "When I returned to the house they were all gone and anyone who was still hanging onto life would not have been for much longer. I often imagine what could have happened if I had stayed away for an hour longer... instead one of them attacked me from behind, I don't know who it was but they drained me almost dry before they left. I remember lying there- in and out of consciousness- just willing death to take me to my family once more. Instead death had other plans and sent another member of the coven to stretch out their arm to me" she said "I don't know why they chose to save me, but someone did. Someone decided to keep me alive and I am unsure what for... the only thing I know is that it was a cruel act that kept me from meeting my family at the gates of heaven, but it led me to you" she said "I had nowhere else to go and when walking through the house, trashed and covered in my own families blood, I spotted it- one of your letters just sitting on my Fathers desk. So I took it and ran, not wanting to stay in a house filled with death any longer then k had been forced to endure"
As she finished I realised that she had red streaks rolling down her cheeks.
I slowly lent forward as I wiped them. She looked up at me with big scared eyes.
"I didn't know where else to go" she said quietly
"You're safe now, child, you can breathe easy now that you have found me as I will never make you walk alone again" I spoke as she cried and lent forward, resting her head on my chest and clinging to me for comfort.
In that moment I realised why people became Mothers and I, myself, became one that day even if the title of Mother was never used.

Heyyyy guys. Hope you enjoyed this chapter. So... I'm actually about to hop on a plane in the early hours of tomorrow, although I still don't believe it, and that means I cannot guarantee an update in the next seven days, HOWEVER if the WiFi is good in Cyrus then I absolutely will update for you. Unfortunately it will not be me wantimf to go on a writing break, it will be the WiFi making it appear so.
That being said I have started to bulk write the next few chapters so that I can just upload them whenever I can- this means that there might be another update in the early hours of tomorrow morning or tonight. If not then it's because I didn't have time, but nevertheless I will try my hardest to update as this trip hasn't been kind in relation to the point the story is in and how you are all probably on the edge of your seats waiting to see what happens next. Ha ha
