I left Rachel some hours later, just when the sun was about to shine through the clouds.

I took her to the church I had been to many times and I explained how she could stay there for a few days- a few days before I could guarantee her a place in my family.

I knew that Claudia wouldn't be the issue, she would welcome anyone into our family that I said I found fit... however it was Louis and Lestats fued that worried me.

Lestat did not approve of Louis and Claudia ever joining our couple and I wasn't sure how he would feel about adding a third.

Rachel was onboard with the idea. She instantly trusted me and was just glad to find shelter in the church.

I walked back into our home after my eventful walk full of a new purpose. I felt lighter, I felt happier- I felt the grief that was keeping my head under water slowly start to allow me a few breaths above the crashing waves.

But when I entered the house my happiness didn't enter with me, instead the second I stepped through the threshold I was overwhelmed with smells- human smells- and it brought me anything but happiness.

As I walked down the hall I witnessed many people rushing about from room to room. Many held fabric yards or candle sticks and some even carried alcohol bottles.

As I made my way around the many bodies, I suddenly caught sight of Claudia.

"Do you mind telling me what's going on?" I asked her as she saw me and sent the servant she was talking to away with a job to do.

"Oh isn't it amazing! With all this help our home will be fit to hold a Madi Gras party for the whole town" she said with a small smile

I nodded, wide eyed, as I looked around at the crowd of bodies.

"Don't you think it's a bit much though, jeune fille? I mean it's not even a major holiday-" I started

(Young child)

"But it's an occasion to celebrate non the less" she said with a smile and I could tell how much tonight ment to her.

I just sighed before nodding.

"Very well, it's just a bit overwhelming with all the... humans about" I said as one squeezed in between us to enter a door we stood next to

"I guess so, I'm having a hard time myself but every once in a while I allow myself a little snack... but if it's too much for you then you are welcome to sit out of the party- like I said you don't want to throw yourself into the deep end after feeling as much heart ache as you have this past month-"

"Claudia is something wrong with the party?" I suddenly asked, sick of hearing her hinting "why do you keep telling me not to attended? You know I want to see Lestat entertain... but if there is something you're not telling me-"

"-No it's nothing" she said quickly however she clasped my hands which brought my scepticle eyes to hers "I'm just thinking of you that's all" she said

Her words reminded me of her promise spoken though mind link only days before.

Everything I do is for your benefit Mama.

Even just remembering the words brought a chill down my spine.

Yet I found myself nodding at her

"I understand that you're concerned, but really I'll be fine- I took my walk and I feel better already, but I will step out during the festivities if I need to ok?" I said

She hesitated before she nodded, knowing that it was the best she was going to get.
