"Lestat did not return until all the guests had left. I knew something was happening- knew I should have been the one to have gone after Louis and for a long time I blamed everything on myself. If I had been the one to find him in that church maybe I could have saved-"

"You're skipping ahead Vic" Daniel spoke up "Tell me about when Lestat returned- tell me about when you found out that he had turned Louis"

I sigh as I look at Daniel

"You find joy in pushing vampires to annoyance?" I rhetorically ask the man before I continue "I could kill you where you are sitting before you even blink" I warn, the outburst more directed at the memory I was about to share rather then at Molloy himself

Daniel doesn't speak as I continue on

"I did not find out that night, by the time Lestat came home I was resting in our coffin, but the next night.... The next night..."

...

When i awoke, the day after the dinner party, i found myself alone inside our shared coffin. I was used to Lestat waking me with soft kisses down my neck or the way he often mumbled words in my home language by my ear as i opened my eyes... but Lestat was nowhere to be seen.

I stood from the coffin and stretched, just like i always did, before i tightened my robe around me and walked into our bedroom.

Lestat and i, in order to keep up appearances, had invented a sort of flip switch between the show room and our actual night chambers. It allowed our coffin room to be kept concealed and out of sight while allowing us to slumber peacefully behind the wall.

I walked over to our shared closet and i started to flick through a few options. I remember wishing that the old fashion i was used to was still around, before i settled on one of my usual outfits.

I muttered about it to myself as i started up my new player and a soft orchestra started to play.

I recognised the build up in the music and i smiled, it was the same music i used to listen to when i was painting... back when life was simpler.

As i opened up a few draws in my vanity I applied most of my regular makeup before i found the one tube of red lipstick i owned. I loved the colour as it was very uncommon.

I applied it generously before i smiled at myself in the mirror.

I stood as i looked at myself one last time, the addition of my new hand accessory causing a small smile to land on my face, before i opened the door to the landing.

The music continued blaring from the vinyl as it started to build up a symphony of instruments. I hummed along as i started to make my way across the hallway.

The music reached its highest point as i got closer to the top of the stair case.

I smiled as suddenly the music switched and the notes started dying down, going down their rabbit hole to somewhere unknown.

The music stopped completely when i placed my foot on the first step

"To this day i still can't remember exactly how it happened. Maybe it was because the music stopped which focused my senses or maybe it was because i had taken that first step down the stairs...but from that moment on the night took a turn..."

I stopped still in my tracks as an overwhelming smell hit my nose.

Blood.

So much blood.

I felt my fangs fill my mouth before i took a moment to compose myself. I hadn't eaten yet and the smell was unexpected.

I continued down the stairs until i was able to see the living room.
