"HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THIS ONE HUMAN?!?" Rando demanded. "OR THIS ONE?!?"

He kept on taunting, while Yusuke could only scream and grunt as he was tossed to the ground for the hundredth time, or crashed into the many dead-dry trees that remained around.

"Goodness." Botan breathed out.

"If this keeps up he won't last much longer." Ruby watched the fight with a frown.

Not being able to take it anymore, Botan turned in the master's direction. "Genkai! You have to do something, Rando is only going to come after you next, and maybe Master Yara right after."

"I won't," Genkai said with a stone face. "As I said before, whoever wins this fight will be the one I teach, and it would be wrong to interfere with the selection."

"My sister is right." Master Yara added.

Ruby then jumped up to her feet. "But master-!"

Genkai raised a hand to stop her.

"I will keep my word either way. Besides, we are getting old now, meaning our powers have to be carried forward, even if they must stay for a while in the hands of the wicked."

"Are you both hearing yourselves?!" For the first time, Miyuki spoke. "If Rando gets either of your techniques, there's no telling how many more innocent lives will be at stake. If you enable that kind of behavior, those people's blood will be on your hands as well!"

Master Yara sighed as she pulled away from Kuwabara's arm. "There are things your kids don't understand."

"Like what?!" Botan asked with furrowed eyebrows.

"Progress."

Genkai nodded in agreement. "Progress is what must prevail, it's a story that neither I nor Yara can change."

"No, you're wrong." Botan's voice broke as she and the others looked back at the match.

Rando hurled Yusuke into yet another tree with a forceful impact, sending him sprawling. Once satisfied, he made his way to a nearby tree that had one of its long branches extending above a small lake. Immediately, he dragged his opponent over there. By the time Yusuke managed to regain his consciousness he found himself hanging upside down, much to his dismay.

"There, you see, it's amazing how indestructible these threads are," Rando said with a smirk. "So how do you feel?"

Yusuke gritted his teeth at the smugness. "Why do you keep asking? I'm hanging upside down from a tree, take a guess you freak!?!"
