Yu Yan tried to reason but saw that the other person was already convinced and was somehow only chaffing him.
Whistle—
The conversation ended abruptly when Instructor Viktor stood back at front of the crowd. He squinted at them, displeased at how weak-willed the first years are with how they were all fighting for a piece of shade like girls afraid of getting burnt.
Seeing a familiar face of discontent, a shiver past through the four members of team 4444. Even the other cadets couldn't help but stiffen with cold sweat running down their backs.
All cadets bolted back to position before the instructor said anything—survival instincts kicking in. Soon, Viktor's face went back to a cold expressionless face, much to the relief of everyone.
Only the heavens know how much they've suffered every time that face appeared!
"Stand up! First team, line up", the drill instructor yelled. "Second and third team—!"
The last training was an endurance test done through running the basic forty laps.
As the cadets lined up for their endurance run, some couldn't help but want to vomit, some groaning, and some with their limbs shaking. The last laps were always the hardest but fortunately, not one of the cadets fell unconscious unlike the first day.
The sight of a 1.8-meter man fainting was indeed a sight and a great shame to the man.
Chen WangZhi: ......
Viktor barked, "Minimum forty laps. If you drop out, you'll be assigned double the next day!" His eyes specifically directed at Chen WangZhi.
Chen WangZhi groaned. "Kill me now~"
Fernis, "Don't worry, I'll drag you across the field while running if you faint again."
"Lest the instructor penalize entire teams next training again", Yu Yan added.
"....Thanks." But that's not a comforting thought at all.
"Oh. No need for thanks. They just don't want to run extra ten laps again," Gazef said monotonously.
"..."
It wasn't the first time they had to run an extra ten more laps as a team because of Chen WangZhi. After all, most punishments were done together as a team.
Teaching staff: The advantage of this is that, not only do the cadets get to understand each other's strengths and weaknesses, but it also boosts the team's their unity and effort to solidarity!
First year cadets: (ರ_ರ) Isn't this just another way of saying we all die together? (ಥ-ಥ) How about you all come here and run with us too?!
Silently, Chen WangZhi vowed to improve his endurance, starting with this forty laps!
...Lest they throw him under the bus on the first opportunity they get. A cold trickle of sweat dripped down the side of his face.
On the other hand, eight laps in, Yu Yan and Gazef inadvertently exchanged a glance. Their competition was far from over.
At first, they ran at a steady pace, watching each other out of the corner of their eyes. Unlike the others who sprinted ahead to get it over with, they conserved their strength, running in sync.
By lap twenty, cadets started dropping behind, exhausted. Other students would overtake their positions as they lag unto the back.
By lap thirty, only a few remained running at a consistent pace. Rooming at 4444, Yu Yan's team was stationed at the back but due to their constant speed, they had managed to move slowly from the back to the front in an orderly manner.
