A/N: Belated happy holidays~

The four students sweated a little as Bryce sighed. These four were brilliant, but in a way, they were indeed only students. If you placed them in a political setting, even soldiers who fought for the country would typically get sliced and diced by the very people they swore to protect if even a single person manipulated the perspective of the situation. That was simply politics.
"Here's your first lesson, cadets! Attention!"
Instinctively, four students stood upright.
In a hardened low voice, they heard their Instructor speak.
"In the field, you don't get pats on the head for doing what you think is right. Nobody cares for whatever shit you think is right. If society thinks it's right, then it's right. Even if it isn't, who gives a damn? The brass only cares for the results of your actions. War changes in an instant, and so do orders. You don't have the luxury of assuming that what worked a minute ago will work again."
The room had gone still, every cadet now listening intently.
Bryce continued, his voice cold as steel. "You think finding a loophole in my instructions is smart? That you can just blatantly exploit it? Whatever I say, goes. The people higher than you; whatever they say, goes. Understand?"
""Sir!""
"If you're going to take advantage of something, make sure you have the advantage until the end."
What Bryce wanted to express was that from the moment he was their instructor, he already had the advantage of having authority over these students. They played a card that was too risky without realizing the precautions of their decisions.
Bryce's voiced lowered down a notch.
"You are cadets that will become elite soldiers upon graduation. It won't be an exaggeration to say that you can be assigned to tasks on foreign planets where your every action has a political implication. And what if somebody at the top doesn't like something as simple as your face? Seconds are all it takes before you're discarded into a warzone on a planet with no resources, and no reinforcements. And if you're lucky, you'll live long enough to realize your mistake by your third deployment."
The words hung heavy in the air, suffocating the room.
They couldn't help but think that some parts were emphasized too much or were somehow unrelated at all. The instructor may be talking from his experience but the four of them had no proof. Regardless, they knew the instructor was saying it for their sake.
Chen WangZhi was quiet, looking a little overwhelmed.
Fernis, for the first time, had no immediate response. He had been so sure, so proud of their work. Yet here they were, learning the harsh reality that even the best efforts can go unrecognized—or worse, penalized.
And while Gazef was contemplating something on his own, Yu Yan's jaw tightened, but there was a flicker of realization in his eyes.
This was their first direct lesson from the instructor. Perhaps after coming to this world, he had become a little too naive, assuming that the schemes and ploys of his last life would never cross to this life. And yet, he was mistaken.
It was good to have a little wake up call sooner than later.
Bryce, sensing the shift in the group, let the silence stretch for a moment longer before speaking again.
"Go back to your dorms and rest. Classes will start tomorrow. There will be no next time to this. You're dismissed."
As they left, an assistant staff came in, taking only a glance before entering to salute Bryce.
