A Shadow On The Shore

Glassy hearts,
Threatening to shatter;
Lost eyes,
Growing vacant;
Fingers laying motionless reaching for a single sign of hope,
Left in this wretched place,
Clawing for the smallest hint of hope left in her heart,
But all was quiet and vacant;
With that thought her heart skipped a beat as if it thought itself a held in breath and all that was left was fractured pieces that couldn't be repaired.
All that she could do was dismantle herself further from repair,
Pinning for someone to notice,
Notice that she was not what she seemed,
That all her smiles were a pure action of innocent deceit,
Screaming help me;
As heads turned she would let her emotions loose,
For just a moment,
For just a second she would show the world who she really was,
How she really felt;
Because if they really knew the truth,
They would be lacking in empathy and grow into the habit of pity,
Pity that just made her tormenting become worse.
All their eyes would follow her shadow with judgment and uncertainty,
They would become the warden and guards of her prison of misery,
Looking down on her with disdain, looking at her as if she were below them.
And no matter how much she wanted support, all she would gain was the overwhelming feeling of being judged even by the ones she put her trust and faith in,
She would feel them pitying her, giving her their unwanted sympathy;
Because all she really wanted was for someone to be understanding.
