Chapter16: You know how long it takes him to do his hair

"Lex! I need a tie," Jeremy came barging into my room, flopping across my bed in his gray and white tux.
"You should have one in your room," I grumbled while doing up my own tie.
"I looked and I couldn't find one."
"Look harder."
"Felix," he whines and I shut my eyes to keep from snapping at him. Tugging open one of my drawers, I pulled one out and tossed it to him. "Thanks," he shouts, darting back out of my room.
I'll never understand how we're related.
I quickly fixed up my tie before wandering out to the main area. My father was already in his usual black and red suit while my mother bore a cream, tight fitting dress that reached her knees. She was shuffling through her purse and I could see her lips moving as she checked that she had everything like usual.
"Where's your brother?" She questions, "Did you help him with his tie?"
I forced off an eyeroll, "He had it handled." She gave me a look and I held my tongue from pointing out he was fourteen, he should know how to put on a tie at this point. If not, I'd wonder if he was adopted.
"Jeremy!" She called as I wandered over to the kitchen, sitting in one of the island seats as I fixed the cuffs of my suit. "Jeremy! Get your ass out here!"
We heard him come racing down the hall before sliding into the kitchen with a grin, "I'm here." His tie was nicely done but the buttons of his suit weren't done up.
"Do up the buttons," our mother demanded with a wave of her hand.
"But I look good like this," he grins at her, doing a dorky spin to show it off but the brow raise and scrutinizing glare she gave made him quickly start doing them up.
She shakes her head at him before turning to my father, "I wish they gave us a little more forewarning about this."
"Ya, me too. If there's one thing I remember about Jay, it was his impromptus nature," my father muttered, looking down at his phone as he messaged someone. "Everyone got everything?"
My mother quickly went to check her purse for likely the tenth time while Jer and I just nodded. "Alright. Let's go, we don't want to be late," our mom starts shooing at us to get moving.
Jeremy was quick to dart for the door and I just slowly followed behind. My father wasn't far behind and quickly grabbed my shoulder, giving me a stern look, "No arguing with Mathew tonight. I don't need you two derailing dinner or giving us a bad image because of your childish rivalry."
I nodded my head but my teeth grit at both the thought of dealing with him and the fact my father thought it was childish. Mathew was the one that was always a dick and it was one thing at school but a complete other at these fancy, professional events where we couldn't mouth off. Especially when he made an effort to discreetly push my buttons.
We wandered out and got into the white car out front, my dad taking the driver seat. Both him and my mom fell into conversation about the minute details of everything and would occasionally warn us to make sure we behave – something more directed at Jeremy.
I leaned against the window, watching things go by and already dreading this. I'd have to not only deal with Mathew but also a bunch of other brats from some other pack.

"You almost ready?"
"Yes," I groaned once again at Kile's persistent question. Quickly running a final hand through my hair, I wandered out of my bathroom and into the main room. Kile was sitting on the bed, staring down at his phone which made me narrow my eyes at him. "You seem pretty occupied for a guy that's complaining."
