Chapter9: I doubt you would be much help considering your work ethic

|||Ashley

Wandering into the large library, I stalked through the rows of book filled shelves. Minimal people were in here but that was exactly what I needed – I didn't even want to chance interacting with those two dickheads.

Besides, I had a strong feeling those two wouldn't be caught dead in the library.

I dropped down with an exhausted sigh at one of the small nooks carved into the wall, dropping my head against the back of it. My mind began running through everything I was thinking about and I shut my eyes, finally allowing my wolf to come forth and make them glow yellow.

It was only my second day here and already, I was in this bullshit.

Shuffling back, I pulled my knees up onto the booth, shifting into one of the corners and now noticing the person across from me.

My eyes met her dull blue ones for a moment before she quickly hid behind her book. I didn't think much of it and just pulled on my headphones, starting some music and drowning out the world as I shut my eyes. A debate was running in my head to just ditch for the rest of the day but that would lead to questions — from Conner and it seemed the whole student body.

Then the headphones were tugged from my ears, making dread rush over me but I turned to find Ruby's cheery face, Maya behind her. I let out a breath of relief.

"Didn't think you could hide from us, did you?" She laughs, taking a seat at the nook.

I shifted the headphones to sling around my neck, muttering, "You two aren't the ones I'm hiding from." Maya just settled on the floor, leaning against the wall near our feet and pulling out her phone.

"Right. May told me what Felix did," Ruby commented, a trace of sympathy in her voice.

Her comment had that anger resurfacing as my teeth grit, "Those dicks have no right to be treating anyone like that. It's complete bullshit that everyone just bends to their will."

Ruby frowned, looking down but Maya commented, "They're important people and everyone fears them. They may not have any right to but nobody will challenge them."

My teeth grit further and Ruby must have noticed, "And you shouldn't. I know they can be irritating but you get used to it. Besides, following what they say keeps you off their radar."

I shifted my jaw but I knew she was right, far more than she realized.

"What about pink?" Becca suggested for the slide colors. I tried not to grimace at the suggestion because I knew for a fact that I could easily make it work and look nice. Pink just wasn't an appealing color in my opinion.

"I was thinking more blue or gray colors. It's a bit more professional that way," I suggested and she grins.

"Sure, that works." I smiled and got to work.

We'd both decided it was best to read the book in our spare time and focus on the presentation during class time. I was designing the actual slides while she was gonna input what we needed for the presentation.

I was changing the font of the title slide when my phone lit up on the desk but I barely passed it a glance. That was until it went off once more, causing me to let out a breath and slide it into my hand.

Unknown(Mathew): You know, if you had partnered with me, we could be having more fun. 😉

Unknown(Mathew): You can't really be that focused on this that you can't respond to me. Come on, darling.
