Chapter1: Sound of da Police

|||Ashley

"How exactly did you find out about this again?" My gaze drifted over the dark, unfamiliar streets flying past in a blur before falling back on my brother.

He shrugs, fingers drumming the beat of the music against the steering wheel, "I have my sources." My lips pursed as I passed my gaze over him, from the light brown hair down to his black hoodie and blue jeans. Why I always blindly follow him, I will never understand.

"Are they at least reliable or the type of people you met in some back alleyway?"

He chuckles, shaking his head at me, "Would it matter what I say? Besides, when have I ever led you astray?" I raised a brow in his direction and it wasn't long before he added, "Don't answer that. It was rhetorical."

"Only because we both already know the answer."

"You're the one usually dragging me into trouble if you don't remember."

"At least when I do it, I actually know where we're headed."

He scoffs, shaking his head at me, "I'm not letting you get in my head. We may be new to town but I know where I'm going."

"You clearly don't realize we've been driving in circles for the past ten minutes then," I smirked at him, causing his eyes to flash to me for a moment.

"No I haven't." I watched his eyes shift out the window as they cast over the area around us. It was clear when it clicked because the smile faded from his lips, "Fuck." I burst out laughing and he rolls his eyes at me. "Okay, but I swear that my intel is correct."

"Sure it is, Dork," I snickered and he shot me a dirty look, twisting the volume dial to drown me out. We took a couple more turns, drove through some areas that were surrounded by forests and then a clearing finally came into view, a large building sitting in the center of it.

"See! What did I tell you?"

"This looks like a creepy old abandoned warehouse." He waved me off like that was just some irrelevant matter and pulled in to park near a bunch of other vehicles.

The building looked just as I said with rusted metal and abandoned junk all over the place. The few lights outside looked beat up and covered in cobwebs and surrounded by bugs. It looked more likely to be the scene of a murder than our final destination. But there were plenty of cars parked around which meant we clearly weren't the only ones.

Didn't mean his intel was correct either.

"If I end up in a body bag by the end of this, I will haunt you for eternity." I could hear him laugh behind me as I stepped out of his ugly car – a beat up sage green sedan.

The air was fresh in some aspects but garbage and the sharp scent of metal also mixed into it. Bugs buzzed all over the place, birds calling out through the night air and the long, deep howls of wolves traveled from the distance. Then my ears focused on the building to hear the beats of music radiating from it.

We were either about to step into a secret party or the hangout for a criminal gang. Either way, it was gonna be an eventful night.

Conner came wandering around from the other side of the car and we started off for the rundown building, our footsteps crunching in the gravel.

The door opened to a large interior, strobe lights shining over the room and seating all over — which really just looked like old, rundown furniture nobody wanted. People were all over the place, dancing, drinking and simply having fun.
