Part Two Chapter Twenty-Three

Start from the beginning

As ready as he was to try and face whatever could be approaching, given his situation, he knew it would be best to avoid conflict, so he chose a safer option that seemed better than just standing there stanced up, and flew up to the top of one of the tall pine trees. He remained perched up there, looking down to see what had been approaching, was it a threat that he had narrowly avoided?

Soon he caught sight of what it had been, and it turned out to be just a family of five small hedgehogs. The hedgehogs looked like their spikes were made of spiky chestnut plants.

Meta Knight lowered his guard, the little hedgehogs seemed to be harmless, and honestly kinda cute. From here he knew he could just fly away and leave now, but as he kept observing the hedgehogs, he noticed something that made him remain perched up on the tree branches. The hedgehogs seemed to be running away frantically, as if they were afraid of something. Considering it was likely some kind of predator chasing them, Meta Knight kept watching to see what it could be. He then heard a sound that he initially thought was the wind howling some more, but it soon became apparent that's not what it was.

It was the howl of a wild beast.

Meta Knight watched as the creature burst through the trees, pouncing right before the hedgehogs and startling them. It looked like some kind of beastly lion with a white mane and fur that looked like whipped cream, while its back looked like it was decorated with chocolate syrup, and its paws seemed to have pieces of chocolate on them, along with boasting some pretty sharp claws. Most notable feature apart from its mane and tail was its face, and the sinister and sharp smile it had as it approached the hedgehogs.

The hedgehogs rolled up into spiky little balls, seemingly knowing they couldn't outrun the beast, yet it didn't seem to care, and it slashed at the little animals, sending them and some snow flying. They all landed on the ground relatively fine, but the violent creature pounced onto them, the grin on its face growing wider as it continued to ferociously play with its victims.

Even though it would have been easy for Meta Knight to just fly away while the creature was distracted, he couldn't stand for this injustice, for no matter the situation, he always believed a fight should be fair. At the same time, he knew it wouldn't be smart to intervene with nature, therefore he thought of a more cautious way to handle this.

Taking a deep breath, Meta Knight took a mighty leap from the tree branch he was on, landing on another one that had been straight across from him, intentionally making as much noise as possible on purpose. The creature noticed this, and turned to look up and see what was making those noises. Meta Knight remained hidden from it within the branch's pine needles, and once it looked like it had decided to ignore what it had heard, he leapt over to other branches, getting its attention back as it decided to give chase to whatever was fleeting.

Meta Knight made the creature go around in circles for a bit, until he had seen that the hedgehog family had fled, and were now most likely safe. He landed on another tree branch and gazed down at the creature as it sniffed around trying to find what it had been chasing. Soon it came upon the tree Meta Knight was perched up in, it sniffed upwards and squinted to try and spot Meta Knight. He had his sword ready, a creature that large looked like it could knock the tree down with those mighty claws.

After a few minutes, the creature seemingly lost interest, and started to leave, appearing to have disappeared into the trees.

Meta Knight waited until he was sure the creature was gone, then flew back up into the skies once he decided it was all clear. Up in the sky, he could see storm clouds fast approaching, meaning that the blizzard would start up again soon.

He sighed in disappointment, he had hoped to make more progress while the weather was clear, but instead he had spent his time saving some hedgehog creatures from some wild beast.
