Chapter 2: The Hidden Grove
Kirby and his friends stood there panting. Staring at the now closed entryway of the sudden passage that was keeping them safe. They heard the brief sound of squealing on the other side, then the sound hooves stomping away. Suggesting that the choco roll hoglet gave up its pursuit. The three friends took deep breaths and sighed, taking a seat on the grassy ground.
"Well... that just happened..." sighed Adeleine.
Bandana Waddle Dee laid down on the ground. "This place is so weird!" he complained "From getting turned into cookies, to being attacked by food monsters, I'd rather be stuck in another world like the Forgotten Lands again!"
"Yeah... at least there I could get copy abilities..." Kirby solemnly agreed, looking down at his cookie hands. "But I can't inhale enemies with this cookie body..."
Adeleine kneeled down and patted Kirby's head. "Hey, it'll be okay Kirby. Like you said, you're still a strong pink puff. Or, a strong pink cookie in this case."
Kirby looked up and smiled. "Thanks Adeleine."
"Though your inability to inhale foes does have me wondering, can we eat food at all in this world?" she wondered "Our mouths are just outlines, but we're able to talk just fine, can we consume sustenance at all??"
"To be fair, I've never had a mouth and I've always been able to consume food and talk." Bandana Dee reminded them.
"True." Adeleine nodded.
"But as for if we can still eat stuff..." Kirby started saying, as he picked a leaf from one of the shrubs and actually managed to put it in his mouth. "Yay! We can still eat stuff!!"
"Okay, but don't eat leaves!" Adeleine exclaimed, making Kirby spit out the leaf. "So we can still eat stuff, but I don't think that will help with you getting copy abilities, since your inhaling powers don't work here.
"... WAIT, Kirby I just realized, if you can't inhale foes, can you not inhale and float up either???"
Kirby's brow furrowed at Adeleine's revelation. Determined to see if it was wrong, he jumped up, taking a deep breath, and flailed his arms in the air.
Only to immediately fall face first onto the ground.
Picking himself up, Kirby shook the dirt and grass of his face.
"That's not good..." Kirby said, wide eyed. (Not the first time I was put into a circumstance where I can't float, but still somewhat alarming.)
Bandana Dee looked very distraught by this revelation. As did Adeleine, though she chose to take a deep breath and try to calm down instead of getting too worked up about it.
"Okay, you can't float, but that's not the end of the world. It just means we can't let you near any drops or you might instantly fall down them."
Kirby nodded. "I already forget to inhale whenever I fall down a big drop anyway, so this shouldn't be too bad!"
"Right." Adeleine started pacing some more "Back to the matter of Copy Abilities...Is there a way you can get copy abilities without having to inhale foes?"
Kirby thought for a moment, then he remembered something. "Oh yeah! If I make contact with a copy ability essence, or something that has the essence of a copy ability, then I can get an ability without having to inhale anything!"
"Well, we would need to find something that contains copy ability essences." said Bandana Dee "But at least it's something."
Kirby nodded in agreement, as did Adeleine.
