Chapter 21: Gourmet Race

Right before the Gourmet Race finally started, Adeleine went over to Magolor's Shoppe to confront him about the fact that he was making some of the audience members bet.

"I'm just saying, this might not be the best idea." she told him "You're already doing a decent job making money by selling Gem Apples, do you really want to try and earn money by making the Cookies basically gamble?"

Magolor finished assorting the betters coins into the coin bag before looking up at Adeleine.

"Actually, I only got this idea thanks to one of my customers. And apparently most Cookies do minor gambling related activities around here, so if anything I'm just appealing to the masses. Besides, the ones who did place bets said they would be chill if they lost."

Adeleine scratched the side of her face. "Did they? You're positive about that?"

"Adeleine, have I ever lied to you?" Magolor asked her with a funny expression.

"Magolor, you lie to almost everyone..."

Magolor snicked. "Sometimes, yes. Here however, my words are one hundred percent true."

Adeleine raised an eyebrow. "Promise?"

"Yes."

Letting out a small sigh, Adeleine started turning away from the Shoppe. "Alright, if you're so sure this is a good idea I guess I'll leave it be. But don't say I didn't warn you if something goes awry from this."

"Aw Adeleine, you know I'm super careful with this kind of stuff! What could go wrong?"

Adeleine shook her head. "Nevermind."

Just then, the sounds of trumpets could be heard not far from the Shoppe. Both Adeleine and Magolor recognizing what it meant.

"Sounds like it's time for the race." Adeleine smiled.

"What are we waiting for then?" said Magolor, putting the bag of betted coins and the basket of Gem Apples in a safe place within the Shoppe before flying out of it. "Let's go root for our favorite pink puffball!"

The two proceeded over to where the race was starting, coming up to a pretty large crowd gathered around the starting line. Whilst the audience was gathered on both sides near the road that was being used as the racetrack, four Sugar Gnomes could be seen standing on it, blowing tiny trumpets, the leader of the Sugar Gnomes, Maestro Sugar Gnome, stood in the middle between them.

"I'm back!" Adeleine called out once she and Magolor reached the crowd on the right side where Princess Cookie and Knight Cookie were, the two having invited Adeleine to stand with them to watch the race, Magolor waving at the two upon arriving.

"Welcome back! You made it just in time!" Princess Cookie excitedly waved, before turning back to look at the racetrack, practically vibrating with excitement "It's finally gonna start! I'm so excited to see what this will be like!!"

"I am as well, your Highness!" Knight Cookie told her (Though could you maybe please tone down the excitement just a bit?...)

Princess Cookie turned to another member of the audience, that being Prophet Cookie, the fortune teller wanting to watch the race as well. He did tell Kirby he hadn't been able to have any more visions regarding his friends, but Kirby told him it was all good and he didn't have to worry about it, and he was welcome to just watch the race.

"Hey Prophet Cookie," she poked his shoulder "Do you know who's gonna win?"

"Hm! You're not the first to ask me about this today! Some betters wanted me to predict who's going to win! My crystal ball is capable of predicting many things, but using it to predict this outcome would be a waste of its wisdom!"
