Back in the backyard, Tak was showing Dib a lot of self-defense skills—how to dodge a first punch, kicks, etc. His attempts were not quite there yet, but you know how the saying goes: practice makes perfect.
"All right, Dib, it seems like you're getting the hang of things, but there's still a lot of practice to be done next time," she said, panting and wiping sweat off her forehead.
"I can't wait for more next time!" Dib said, looking forward to tomorrow's lesson in self-defense.
The two hung out in his house for a bit, with Dib showing her around his room and apologizing for the mess. She didn't mind. He showed her videos of strange creatures he'd caught on camera, uploading the footage to his laptop.
He explained that he'd been trying to send the videos to the show Mysterious Mysteries, a show he was obsessed with, but they never received his tapes. He figured they had either lost his notes or simply forgotten about them.
"Well, that's too bad. Hopefully, they get back to you," Tak said, offering some encouragement.
"Yeah, I hope so," Dib replied.
Tak then walked over to the door, turning the knob. "Well, I must be going. My parents are probably worried about me," she said, sounding a little sad.
Dib put a hand on her shoulder. "It's fine. You've done a lot for me these past few days. How about I walk you home?"
Tak tapped her nonexistent chin thoughtfully. "I wouldn't mind if you walked me home," she said.
The two headed downstairs and exited Dib's home. During the stroll to her house, they chatted most of the way. When they arrived at her gate, Tak leaned against the fence.
"Well, Dib, I have to say, it was great hanging out with you. You're really fun to talk to," she said.
Dib smiled. "I had a great time too, and thanks for looking after me in the hospital. I was in pretty bad shape after my bully attacked me, and if you hadn't stepped in, I wouldn't be here."
He gently put his arms around her in a hug, and she hugged him back. They stayed like that for a moment before letting go. Tak opened her gate, stepped through, and closed it behind her. She looked at Dib, waved, and he waved back before heading home.
