Walking into the cozily lit home, Lee Heeseung was instantly hit with the scent of delicious food, sizzling in the kitchen, with the quiet music seeping through the stereo and creeping into his ears.

His dark eyes scanned over the view in front of him; family pictures displayed on the wall, all of them being taken on trips and at unexpected times — none of them fake and forced...

He could hear the low humming coming from the kitchen, which snatched his attention away from the pictures, causing his brows to raise ever so slightly in intrigue.

The Lee boy silently mirrored Nari's actions and slipped his shoes off in the porch and then set the umbrella against the wall, before he hesitantly followed after her.

He was nervous to say the least.

Never in his life had he gone to someone's house for dinner, as his parents always disallowed him to go to peoples houses that were below them, so he didn't know what to expect — or quite frankly, what to do and how to act.

So, as he entered the kitchen and was immediately faced with the girls' father, he couldn't help but feel his breathing hitch.

"Where have you been, Nari? I was so worried —" The older man began, his tone filled with worry as he spun around from the cooking pot to look at his daughter, though his voice trailed off as soon as his eyes landed on Heeseung.

The Lee boy watched as her fathers jaw tightened and his posture straightened as he brows creased, causing him to harshly gulp.

"Nari, who's this?" He questioned, flicking his eyes between the two and looking Heeseung up and down, longingly, before settling them on the said girl.

"Dad," Nari took a breath in and allowed her eyes to look up at Heeseung, who sent her a small nod in reassurance. "This is... my friend from school, Lee Heeseung."

Friend?

Was Lee Heeseung really a friend?

"Lee Heeseung?" Her father repeated, directing his eyes over at the boy as he cocked his head to the side, and Heeseung awkwardly nodded before suddenly bowing with his hand stretched out for the older man to shake.

Nari bit her bottom lip as she watched as Heeseung waited for her Dad to shake his hand, and she couldn't help but muster a chuckle as her father took a breath in and ignored the boys hand.

"And he's your friend?" He asked and looked back to Nari, who bobbed her head. "Is he staying for dinner?"

"If that's okay," She smiled as Heeseung itched the back of his head. "And here's your lettuce, Dad." She handed him the bag of food and earned a grateful grin in return.
